I knew he watched me work until closing time and then waited for me outside. I knew all this because when Patty took the bins outside he was there waiting. I took my time cleaning up and then scanned out. I yelled my goodbyes over my shoulder as I walked out the front door. He stood by the street light with his hands in his pockets. He walked over to meet me "how are you getting home?"
I shrugged shoving my hands in the pocket of my tight black jeans "I walk."
He walked beside me "do you work often?"
I stopped walking to turn to him "don't do this, if I tell you all this information then you feel the need to report it. I will have you know my aunt takes brilliant care of me. She works three jobs to pay the bills, to make sure I have the best life. Now Mr Peters what are you going to do?"
He raised his eyebrow at me "you know I am obligated to report it, working in that establishment is putting your safety at risk."
I shook my head "I am safe, I am always safe. I carry protective gear and I always lock up as soon as I am home. Don't get me taken away from my Aunty please."
He pinched the bridge of his nose "don't make me regret it, I won't report this but if anything were to go down or you felt unsafe I want you to call me."
I nodded my head "thank you." I excitedly wrapped my arms around his tight stomach. I quickly pulled away in embarrassment. I smiled coyly at him "I'll see you tomorrow then Mr Peters."
As I went to leave he cleared his throat "forgetting something?" I thought it over for a moment confused, I shook my head "if you are going to call me for help you need my number." I walked back towards him pulling my outdated phone from my pocket handing it to him. He quickly handed it back "I would like to walk you home."
I shook my head as I shoved my hand in my pocket along with my phone "that isn't necessary, I only live down the block. It would be out of your way."
Mr Peters shook his head insistently "it won't be out of my way, get in my car I will drop you off."
I thought it over for a moment "and then you will leave me alone?"
He nodded his head "I promise."
I followed him over to his car, it was an older model but I could tell he took great pride in taking care of it. I laughed "you do know you just showed me your car, which means I know which one to graffiti when you make me mad."
He rolled his eyes dramatically "like I make you that mad you would graffiti my car."
I put on my seat belt "you honestly don't know how frustrating you are. Honestly Mr Peters, just the other day you gave me detention because I sneezed. The day before that it was because I helped a student up after she tripped."
He shook his head in disappointment "the first detention was because coincidentally when you sneezed you called another student a bitch. The second one was because you caused the student to trip."
I brought my hand to my mouth in fake horror "I would never."
He tapped his fingers repeatedly on the steering wheel along with the beat "don't act innocent, you are far from it. Now give me directions please."
It was a quick drive to my house, it took under five minutes. As he pulled in front of my hours she put the car in the park "is your Aunty home?"
I shook my head "she is working a double at the service station. It's okay."
He nodded his head looking around outside "you have my number, see you tomorrow Carley."
I climbed out of the car giving him a wave before I unlocked the door locking it behind me. I watched out of the window as he drove away. As I pulled my shoes off my aching feet, my phone dinged 'get a good nights sleep Miss Phelps you will be studying hard tomorrow- Will'
I rolled my eyes at the message 'Mr Peters, I honestly can't wait to study with you tomorrow I am sitting here debating what is more interesting your sessions or watching paint dry!'
After that message I didn't get a reply back, I was hoping he would take my bait but he didn't. I had a quick pick out of the fridge for dinner. Showered and went straight to bed.
I woke early the next moment and decided to tidy around the house so my aunt didn't feel the need to. After the dishes were done I rushed upstairs changing into a fresh pair of worn jeans and a plain grey shirt. I finished the look off with a light blue scarf and my black trench coat. As I went to leave my aunt walked threw the door. I threw my arms around her waist hugging her "I love you."
She kissed my forehead "I love you too, baby. Are you okay?"
I nodded my head "yeah, go have breakfast and get some sleep. I will see you this afternoon."
I made the walk to school climbing the stairs to Mr Peters history class. I was the first one there. He wasn't in the classroom when I arrived but that's because there was still thirty minutes until class. I sat in my usual seat near the back and pulled out last nights homework I hadn't even started that was due today. Mr Peters has assigned us an essay on what our lives would be like if we were in Romeo or Juliet's position.
I found it to be a difficult question although I see the situation clearly it was all new and scary to them. As I made it to the second paragraph the door open and closed. I glanced up from my work to see him standing there. He wore black slacks with an ocean blue shirt the sleeves were rolled to his elbow. He didn't wear a tie today instead the top two buttons were undone.
He looked at me shocked "you're early?"
I nodded my head "I'm not allowed in the library and needed somewhere quiet to work. I had this class first so decided to come here."
He looked at me curiously "what happened for you to be banned from the library?"
I rolled my eyes at the thought "I wasn't able to return a few books. The birch assumed I had stolen them and wouldn't let me explain that as few bitches from this class stole them and put them in the gym changing room toilets. They got away with it and I have to replace the books that I can't afford. Until I pay for the books I'm not allowed in there."
