When the clock rang, I quickly packed my bag and walked through the door, more than ready for the weekend. Outside the school, Eve was already standing, waiting for me patiently. She smiled when she spotted me and began to walk at the direction of both of our flats. I adjusted my backpack and quickly followed after her.

"Hey, Bed head!" she smiled, when I caught up on her, ruffling my hair with her knuckles to emphasise her comment.

"Oi! Get your sweaty hands off my hair!" I giggled, pushing her hand off my head.

"Okay Goldilocks. I stop," Eve chuckled, putting her hands in front of her body in 'surrender'.

"So, are you coming to the garage today?"

"Yeah, I just have to go home and get my computer. I forgot it this morning. You know... Because I overslept."

That made Eve smile even more.

"Then see you in an hour?"

I nodded.

"See you in an hour."

She nodded and turned left in the direction of the garage. I watched her until she was out of sight and began to walk home.

. . .

The light was off when I opened the door to my flat.

"Hello! Vickie are you home?!" I called out. No answer.

Weird.

By now, Vickie would usually be home, sitting by the laptop and working. I frowned, trying to shake off the worried feeling.

Stop being so paranoid Steph. She is probably just at the mall, or something.

I slowly entered the flat, searching for an indication as to why Vickie was gone. I looked over on the kitchen table, when my eyes landed on a note that was laying on it. Slowly, I picked it up and read it.

Sorry for not being home, but they needed me at work. I'll be back in a couple of days. Remember to take your medicine while I'm gone. There's food in the fridge – Vickie

Days?! Great... At least I had the flat for myself now. And now I knew why she wasn't home.

But the worried feeling still didn't leave me. Quickly, I grabbed my computer and walked out of the door, not wanting to be inside anymore. And when I felt the cold wind against my cheeks, I quickly made my way in the direction of the garage.

. . .

The garage was small, dirty, and a big mess. There were pipes, wires, and half-done machines everywhere. And in the middle of the chaos stood Eve leaned over the table and welded some metal together. Her blonde hair was in a messy braid, and her face was dirty. Black goggles hid her eyes, making her look like a big insect. She looked up from her work when she noticed my presence.

"Glad you came," she smiled while she took the goggles off. The dirt had made two perfect circles around her eyes, showing where the goggles had been.

"How's the doctor?" she asked. That was the name she gave Vickie, because she always checked up on me.

"You're bloody annoying you know?" I sighed, placing the computer on a free spot on the table.

"I do my best," Eve smirked.

I shook my head at her comment, but I couldn't help but smile. "I don't know, she wasn't home. She left a note though."

"A note, eh? What did it say?" Eve asked, tilting her head slightly. It reminded me of a cat.
