I walk through the doors of Summerfield University with Sammy, my boyfriend. My best friend Amanda walks up to us, "Hey Emma."
"Hey," I smile.
"Hey," Sammy smirks.
She rolls her eyes at him, "So there is this party at Chloe's place tonight, and we're invited."
"Oh I was invited too," Sammy adds.
She ignores him, "We have to go!"
"I can't," I say in a low tone.
"Why not?" Sammy asks.
"I have a paper I need to write and send to the executive editor of Summerfield magazine," I explain.
"Ugh," she whines. "Don't turn it in today."
"I can't do that," I say. "If I don't turn it in I'll get fired," I explain.
"Ugh! Why did you have to become a journalist!" She whines again as I laugh. "Please," she says looking at me with puppy eyes.
"I can't," I let her down.
"But it's the party before Christmas break," she says.
"I know and I'm sorry I can't make it," I say.
"Baby come on," Sammy says as he puts his arm around my shoulder.
"Sammy, no means no," I say as he frowns and moves his arm.
I'm sitting in creative writing class and the professor hands out a beige baronial envelope with some cream writing paper.
"Today you will write a love letter," he starts. "Even if you are single," he says as the class lightly laughs. He continues after the class quiets down, "You have the rest of the class time to write a love letter."
I pick up my pencil and look at the plain paper and then I start to write.
Dear Sammy,
My angelic lover,
I've loved you since forever now and I will forever keep loving you. I've never had so many wild and loving feelings toward someone but you and when I look into your eyes I know that's the only place I'd want to be; it's with you. I love the way you say my name; you make it sound original. I love it when you hold my hand, it makes me want to be tied to you forever. I don't have the guts to say any of this to your face and that's because when I'm with you everything is beautifully hard. When I met you, everything changed in my life and I finally found what I was truly looking for. You. When I see you, all my words turn to silence, that's how speechless I become when I get lost in your ocean blue eyes. I'm happy with you and I don't ever want that to change one day. I love you with all I have and I can't wait to see what fate holds for our love.
Your forever and always lover,
Emma.
I put my pencil down, "I wish I could say this to your face," I think to myself with a smile on my face.
Class is over, I throw the letter in my brown leather shoulder bag and walk out of class seeing Sammy waiting for me with a smile.
"Hey," I say.
"Hey," he kisses my blushing cheek and holds my hand as we start to walk down the crowded hallway. "Do you want to go grab a bite and skip the rest of our classes?" He asks.
"No way, I need to take notes for sociology. I have a test before Christmas break," I explain.
"I fell in love with a nerd," he laughs and so do I. "But seriously, we're going to be skipping," he says holding my hand tight and then he starts to run and drag me out the doors of the university.
