Not like the others

I wake up finding myself on my new bed. I reach for my phone on the nightstand next to me.

"9:42 PM," the time read. "Oh my," I mumble to myself. I look around my darkroom and the lamp on my desk is on. I get up off my bed and open the lights to the room. I notice on the desk there is a paper that's folded in half.

It says, "Andrew." I then unfold it.

"Dear Emma,

First of all, good morning or I don't know when you are reading this but I hope you are doing fine. I unpacked your things, I put your books on your desk, I hung the rest of your clothes and I cleaned up the broken glass. If you want the picture, I put it in your English literature book. And if you need anything else, I'm literally right next to you, well next door. I wrote my phone number on the back of this paper. Anyway, I hope you'll be alright after your sleep.

- Your neighbor,

Andrew."

I smile lightly at the paper. Then I grab my English literature book and grab the picture of Sammy and me. I grab my coat and my keys and I'm out the door.

I drive to the ocean that Sammy took me to yesterday. I stand at the same spot, on the boardwalk in front of the deep dark ocean.

"It's not as beautiful as it was before. It's dark and scary," I say out loud to myself. "Maybe because it's night and everything is dark. Or maybe it's because everything is going downhill in my life?" I say as I stared into the ocean. "I'm glad I didn't jump in this ocean for Sammy because the sea monsters might have caught up to me and eaten my soul out. I don't know what I'm saying, ha. But I'm leaving him behind, I'm leaving Sammy behind and I'm not turning back. It's really hard to hate someone after loving them for years," I whisper to myself as breath vapor comes out of my cold mouth. "But I need to move on and find someone better," I say as I take the picture of us smiling and hugging each other out of my jacket pocket. I rip it into pieces and threw it in the water under me, "And I thought we were going to get married," I scoff and walk away back to my car.

I drive to a pizza place a few minutes out of town. I order a pepperoni pizza and a cheese pizza. I'm sitting in the small pizza place looking out the window as it starts to rain.

"Ma'am your pizzas are ready," a man says from over the counter.

I get up and walk to the counter, "Thanks," I say.

He nods, "Your total is 19.89."

I give him a twenty-dollar bill and rush back to my car trying not to get wet from the rain. But I did.

I drive back to my dorm building and take the stairs to my dorm level. I feel my hair dripping water on my back from the rain. I knock on Andrew's door with the pizza's covering my face and I hear the door open as I stand in front of him.

"I didn't order pizza," he says.

I lower the boxes of pizza from my face with a smile. He's wearing a white t-shirt with grey sweatpants.

"Hey Emma," he smiles.

"Hey, did I wake you?"

"No, not at all," he says.

"Good because I got pizza and I'm starving," I say.

He lets me in and I sit on the floor and open up the pizza boxes.

He sits next to me, "So when did you wake up?"

"I woke up about an hour ago and then I drove to the ocean for fresh air and then I got pizza from the place a few minutes out of town," I explain. "Why are you up this late?" I ask.
