Knowing the journey to the castle was going to seem endless, she brought a book along with her. It was one of her favorite murder mysteries.
A sudden jolt of the carriage and the book flew out of her hand onto the floor. Makenzie pushed the curtain away to glance at the surroundings before making her way out of the carriage. She walked to the driver "Is something the matter, sir?" He jumped alarmingly high for being a built man "No ma'am, it's just we will have to stay in this village til' morning so feel free to wander the village just don't go too far" Makenzie nodded her head and the driver bowed his head before turning to tend to the horse.
    Before leaving her household her parents gave her a gracious amount of gold. However, she only took what she deemed necessary for food into a small bag that tied around her belt.
The first thing she thought to do was look for dinner. Wandering through the market she came across a tavern, and it seems like it's the only one for miles by how crowded it is. Makenzie walked to the only seat in the house, where another girl was sitting, "Pardon me, but may I sit here?"
The girl looked up at her and spoke, "Sure."
As Makenzie basically gorged on the food down her mouth, she noticed the two daggers on her belt and a whip. While the girl had a steel sword with a beaded chain. Makenzie swallowed and spoke up "I'm Makenzie, may I ask for your name?"
At first, the girl looked around and then nodded, "My name is Lola." The girl spoke.
Makenzie spoke, "Nice to meet you."
Soon after the introduction, two hooded figures came from a room in the back, "Lola; Let's get going," the taller hooded figure said.
Lola nods and turns to Makenzie, "It was nice meeting you, Makenzie, but I need to go." Lola said as one of the hooded figures stopped her.
    "Did you say her name is Makenzie" The hooded figure who spoke to her before asked.
    "Yes, your highness" Lola sounded confused. The hooded figure sat where Lola once was. Taking his hood off.
    "Makenzie, why are you here?"
    "Who are you and why do you want to know?"
"Just call me Jin and I want to know if your the Makenzie people have been talking about, now why are you here."
"I was given an order to protect Prince Taehyung, and my driver dropped me off at this village."
    All eyes went to the hooded figure still standing, he took his hood off slowly. Revealing a handsome man, one that all women would admire.
"That is me, so... you're the girl who will be protecting me." The man supposedly named Taehyung said with a cocky smile.
"Y-yes, your highness"
"I guess you will be joining us then" Jin stated holding out his hand to Makenzie, which of course she took.
~~~~~~~~
"Why did you believe what they said without seeing any evidence first," Lola asked Makenzie. They were sitting in Makenzie's carriage since their original driver had business in that little town.
"What is that suppose to mean Lola we are totally trustworthy," Jin remarked a bit playfully.
"That is not what I meant...," Lola seemed as though she wanted to say something, but decided against it, "I mean why did you trust what a complete stranger without knowing if they were telling the truth." Lola asked her. Makenzie just shrugged her shoulders not making eye contact.
"You were kind enough to share your name with me and if you trusted them I figured I could too," Makenzie said very sternly. Taehyung looked quite bemused with her response.
"Well now you have to be more cautious with your life considering you have to babysit a prince," Lola said so formally Taehyung and Jin both winced. Makenzie noticed it not understanding.
"Lola you don't have to be so formal around her she will be around for a while," Taehyung replied. Makenzie was so confused she didn't understand the question.
"Um, May I be so bold as to ask your highnesses what the problem is," Makenzie wondered. Taehyung chuckled while Jin looked slightly uncomfortable.
"Great now you have you doing it," Taehyung retorted. Makenzie looked offended that he spoke as though she wasn't their.
"Well, I am so sorry that I felt I needed to give respect to a prince that doesn't give it in return," Makenzie remarked. Taehyung looked like he wanted to say something when he felt a nudge with his foot from Jin.
"I apologize I did not mean that way, my lady," Taehyung replied. There was growing tension in the carriage when they heard a little chuckle escape Lola.
"May I ask," Makenzie began.
"What in the world," Taehyung continued.
"You find so funny?" Jin asked. They all looked at each other in shock.
"Well that was kind of creepy, but I was laughing because you all were making a fuss out of nothing I wasn't being formal. If I was I never would have said 'babysit a prince'," Lola said after she caught her breath. After that they got to know each other without all formalities. They soon made it to the castle.
Lola had shown Makenzie the ropes and she had gotten used to castle life after a month. She would train whenever possible. The king had been watching her get a little too familiar with Taehyung and he did not like the way things looked. He schemed up a plan for them to never go near each other and he knew who could help him with it.
"I don't need you to question the things I do. All you have to do is follow my orders without question," Taehyung shouted to Makenzie.
"Well sorry for trying to make sure you were okay... it's just that I care... and nevermind I guess I will see you later Ta-Your Highness." Makenzie turned and left will tears burning in her eyes.
"Kayla wait-" Taehyung stopped when he saw Jin comforting her. He felt a weight in his chest and a sickening feeling in his stomach.
"You love her don't you?" He spun around and saw Lola looking at them as well.
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"Stop putting up an act you know I can see right through it."
"Fine maybe I do, but if you know then why did you ask."
"Well you see when it comes to love all it is a guess, so thanks for telling me how you really feel."
"Whatever it's none of your business anyway."
"No it's not but she is my friend, so I better go make she is alright lover boy." She said before she ran off towards the two. Taehyung's face lit up bright when he realized he finally said he loved Kayla out loud to her best friend nonetheless. Jin and Makenzie was laughing by the time Lola got there.
"Hey are you alright Kayla I saw what happened," Lola questioned her. She looked down then she looked up with a pained smile. Jin said his good-bye to the ladies when Lola reminded him of where he needed to be.
~~~~~~~
"Just so you know Kayla he really does love you," Lola said.
"Who Jin?"
"What no I am talking about Taehyung why would I be talking about Jin
"No he doesn't if he did then we wouldn't argue all the time."
"Actually if there is no fighting a relationship then there is no movement and if there is no movement then there is no relationship."
"I guess that is understandable, but I know he doesn't."
"Oh really now we just have to see what happens then," Lola said with a smile.
"You know something don't you."
"I don't know what you are talking about, but I do have to go to Jin for his 'meeting' see ya," Lola then left with, "and you should find your prince," then she was gone.
"She knows something darnit I wish she would just tell me," Kayla said before she went to find Taehyung. It had been two weeks since their little argument. They have not talked to each other more than necessary. Jin and Lola were getting tired of the awkward feeling. Jin asked Lola if she could help him with his plan. Jin wanted the plan to take place two weeks from now at the festival.
"So you know what needs to be done," Jin asked Lola. She nodded her head then left.
"Hey Jin do you know where Lola is. She is suppose to help get me ready," Makenzie said as she turned the corner.
"She just left."
"Do you know where she went."
"No, she may be my guard but I don't much about her business."
"Well, I will go look for her see ya later." Makenzie said as she turned away from Jin
"Bye." Makenzie left to look for Lola when she bumped into Taehyung.
"Hey, have you seen Jin?" he asked.
"That way," she replied coldly. She then left to look for Lola.
"Damn that was cold," Taehyung spun around to see Jin standing there.
"You scared me half to death." Taehyung barked looking at his brother.
"Sorry, did you need something."
"I just wanted to chat with you before the dinner."
"About?"
"Can we speak in private for a bit?"
"Yeah, but can we talk later like after the dinner unless it is very important."
"No, no it can wait."
"Thanks see you later than." Jin left Taehyung alone in the courtyard. Taehyung bumped into a maid when he was leaving. She almost fell over when he caught by wrapping his arm around her waist. She steaded herself then gave him a kiss on his cheek. She thanked him before she left. Makenzie saw how chummy they acted and did not like it.
~~~~~~~
    The King was in his room looking at the invitation.
    "Tell my sons to meet me at dinner, oh and if you could ask Lola to come to the drawing room," he asked the servant standing by.
    "No, need I am here I heard about the invitation, so I came to see what it is about, Your Majesty," Lola said while she bowed and walked into the room as the servant left.
    "That is not the only reason you came is it?"
    "Not entirely I know you do not like Kayla, but I would like her to accompany us to the ball."
    "Fine whatever you want, but only because you only ask for things when necessary," the King replied followed by a sigh.
    "Thank you Sire, oh and I will tell everybody before we get to dinner so that you can enjoy your meal," Lola beamed.
    "Thank you, you may go," the king replied. Lola bowed and left.
~~~~~~~
*Time Skip brought to you by Lola* At the dinner
Makenzie and Lola were the last ones to arrive at the dinner with Lola trailing behind her. The king was about to yell at her until he saw Lola and the way both of his sons looked at him. Makenzie wore a dark purple dress. It has black lace at the top, it was just below her knees. It was loose and flowy. Lola wore a dress that had white at the top and gradually turning cyan at the bottom. It reached her ankles and it had a cut up to her midway thigh. They ate in total silence until the king got up to leave. Everyone stood up for the king.
"No that is not needed just Jin come with me for a second," the king looked at his son.
"Sure, father anything," Jin got up as did Lola out of instinct.
"Lola that won't be necessary Jin will fill you in later," the king told her. She set her jaw a little trying to fight the urge to protest.
"Alright fine you can see where we will be and how guarded does that make you any better," the King said annoyed. Lola smiled and nodded her head. They left Makenzie and Taeyhung alone without realizing it.
"So, father what did you want to talk about," Jin asked getting straight to the point.
"We will get to that later, first want to have a chat with Lola for a bit," King Sejong said. Jin looked nervous about that since the way he treats Makenzie isn't acceptable. Jin looked to Lola and she looked completely fine with it.
"Sure, anything for Your Majesty," she said innocently.
"You look very lovely."
"Thank you, Your Majesty looks better than ever."
"Can we stop with all the formalities?"
"If you wish too, then of course."
"Thanks, but that is still a little too formal."
"Sorry, it was just a long time since I saw you."
"Same, so I have seen you have been hanging out with the bastard."
"Yes, I have been she is my friend."
"That's nice how is she faring to castle life."
"She has been very lovely she learns fast."
"She probably just learns faster than you did."
Jin chuckled a little at the Kings tease. Lola shot him a glare, but he didn't notice. They continued their chat until they reached the drawing room. Lola knew how heavily guarded it was, so satisfied in the protection of her prince she said her farewells and left to go back to Kayla.
"WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE!"
"WHY DON'T YOU FIGURE THAT OUT YOURSELF SINCE YOU SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT EVERYTHING!" Lola ran toward the door to the great hall. She opened it to find Taehyung and Kayla yelling at each other not even realizing she was there.
"WELL YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON I SEEM TO NOT FIGURE OUT so could please help me," Taehyung said so softly.
"IT'S BECAUSE I LOVE YOU OKAY." Everything fell silent.
"Kay-."
"Stop I don't need your sympathy."
"It's no-"
"I know you won't love me anyways, so I will just go."
"But I love you too."
"What?"
"I love you I always had I just didn't know how to tell you, or if you would feel the same way."
"Sorry for yelling Taehyung."
"No I'm sorry, My Princess." Taehyung walked closer to Kayla. He put one hand on her cheek and made her look into his gorgeous eyes.
"Will you be mine?"
"Of course," Kayla said as they leaned toward each other and kissed.
"Well that didn't go as planned," Lola huffed. Taehyung and Kayla both looked at her as they pulled apart.
"What do you mean?" Kayla and Taehyung questioned at the same time.
"Oh nothing, nevermind, well I gotta go pack, see your two later." Lola then took off. Kayla was about to run after until Taehyung held her back.
"You won't be able to find her, so just stay with me." Kayla blushed deeply and simply nodded her head. After awhile they went their separate ways to get packed. They all met up at the gate.
"So where are we going to stay while we wait for the ball to come," Lola asked.
"How about we stay the little town we met Kayla," Jin suggested.
"Sounds great," Kayla smiled brightly.
"Alright that settles it, lets go have some fun," Taehyung commented while they all laughed and got into carriages.

~~~~~~~
Jin, Taehyung, Lola and Makenzie go back to their shared room to start their lessons again
"Tae, how many times do I have to tell you to do your research before making an argument?" Makenzie spoke as she scanned his written argument.
"Shut up, at least I made an argument... Besides what's the point? I'm not going to be king anyways!" Taehyung snapped in a harsh tone.
"You ignorant Prince, if you actually read the book I gave you about our kingdom's laws, then maybe, just maybe you might learn that The order of succession is like this; Once the king dies, Jin will take the throne. If for some reason he is unable to rule or refuses the throne, you will take it. Then it goes to your half-brother Jimin" Makenzie spat and throws the book, hitting Taehyung in the head.
"What the hell! You arrogant bastard!"
Makenzie stops in her tracks, "What did you just call me?"
Taehyung then stood up and goes to face Makenzie, "I said; You arrogant BASTARD!"
Then Taehyung slapped Makenzie.
Lola stands up in fury and so does Jin. Makenzie looks at Taehyung as tears gather, "Have you no shame to what you did!" Lola spat at Taehyung.
"She provoked me!" Taehyung yelled back.
"Kim Taehyung... That is enough-" Jin spoke up "-You have hurt a dear friend of ours for when she was trying to assist you with your studies. Did she really deserve that?"
Taehyung did not speak the rest of that night, he just stared at Makenzie as she continued to do research. Lola stayed with Jin and helped him with his responsibilities. Occasionally one would hear a "Good job" or "It's alright, keep going." However, tonight, was not one of them.
    "Lola? What do you think the Prince of Belvoir is like?" Jin asked, his eyes gleamed with curiosity.
Lola looked at Jin with annoyance and spoke "Jin.. You have no time for relationships. You have to focus on becoming king once your father dies." She looks at the bed and sees Taehyung hugging Makenzie who are both leaning against each other in a deep sleep.
Jin rips up the letter he was reading and sighs. "They fight more and more by the day, yet he still loves her-" Jin says as he closes his book "-I will hate it when she moves to Etherion to protect Taehyung"
    Lola jerked her head towards Jin, "What?!" she yelled. Quickly, Jin shushed her. Both glanced to the sleeping pair. Lola glared at Jin and whispered, "She's leaving?! When? Why haven't you told anyone? Answer me Jin!"
    "She's leaving in two days..."
    "You can't be serious."
    "Indeed I am, Lola."
    "The ball is in two days."
    "He will meet her there."
"Why haven't you done anything! Jin, he loves her! You're basically handing her over to him."
    He shook his head and stared off into the distance, as if the world was collapsing at his feet, "If I had a choice, wouldn't you think I would've done something! It was on the kings wishes for this girl to come! Now its his wish for her to leave! Not my choice!"
    Lola walked out on Jin, just waiting for her mind to process all the information.
