chapter five - somber shadows

Finn quickly waved goodbye at the two girls before taking off after Veronica, who had just gotten up from her seat and began to walk away. It took him a little bit to reach her but when he did, he found her frowning.

"Look, Veronica, I'm really sorry about that," he said, causing her to angrily whip around to face him.

"Who are you, Finn? Because I thought maybe you were just some model but it's obviously more than that," she spat at him. Finn shook his head, giving her a nervous smile.

"I'm not that famous," he lied, and immediately, Ronnie could see through his anxious façade— she began walking again.

"You must be if you have random chicks from Spain wanting your picture!" She shouldn't have acted that angry. After all, Veronica had been keeping secrets of her own. But, she did not want to have another person think she was their charity case. It was like her therapist said— she kept a wall around herself. She only opened up to Sage about four months after they met. Sage did not chase after information about her private life at all. Or for Veronica at all for that matter. However, Finn decided to keep chasing her, literally and metaphorically. Maybe he was different.

"Ronnie, look, I'll tell you everything! Please, I brought the coffee." He only had to beg once. Veronica stopped abruptly and sighed. Reluctantly, she turned around and there was a huge grin on his face. And, he did have coffees. Both of them, actually. He offered the one she ordered to her and she slowly grabbed it.

"Do you want to go sit back down?" Finn's hopeful face he wore was wiped clean off when Ronnie shook her head. But then—

"No. But, you can walk me to my hotel," she said. The boy was instantly at her side once more. Her eyes softened as he pushed his fingers through his curls.

"Well, my full name is Finn Wolfhard, and I'm an actor," he explained, clearly searching for any sign of dismay on Veronica's face. She knew the feeling, waiting and waiting for approval that might never come. She gave him a slight smile and took a sip of her coffee.

"What have you been in? I think I see something here I might recognize," Ronnie said in a joking manner, but it was true: she did recognize the name slightly. Maybe she heard it from her sister once. Or maybe her brother? She would have to ask them when she got back.

"I'm on a Netflix show called 'Stranger Things,'" he said. Turns out Veronica did know of something he was in. August had told her about the show but she never experienced any desire to watch it.
