"Mr. B, can I go to the bathroom?" Veronica only got a wave of acknowledgement from her teacher. Her class had gotten rather rowdy and honestly, there was not a single assignment she needed to work on. She stood from her seat and left the class, checking her phone once again. A text from August, complaining about his classes. A message from Finn that she didn't check. Over a thousand notifications from social media.
And the text from Sage that she had already read three days ago. The one she refused to answer. God, she missed her though.
Ronnie sighed, opening up the direct message as she walked into the bathroom. He wanted to talk, just to check up on her. To see if she was alright. She could use the sound of his voice right about now. Veronica leaned up against the sinks and dialed his number, putting the phone up to her ear. Then, Sage stormed into the bathroom, slamming the door open and locking it shut.
"What the hell are you doing?" Veronica quickly hung up on the call and shoved her phone into her pocket.
"We need to talk." Sage's face glimmered with sweat. After noticing how red her face was, Veronica realized that Sage was fuming. But, to be fair, so was she.
"So, you decide that locking us in the bathroom is the best course of action to force a conversation?" Her words dripped with sarcasm as she crossed her arms against her chest.
"Veronica, you've been avoiding me for three days!" Sage snapped at Veronica, her voice breaking slightly. Ronnie threw her head back and let out a bitter laugh.
"Yeah, because I said that I wanted space, but you obviously can't respect that," she spat out. Sage looked at her in ridicule.
"We need to talk about what happened at the beach, Ronnie. You just don't get to walk away from that," Sage said, walking closer towards the sinks. Veronica gaped at her.
"Oh, but you can walk away from your problems? Don't be such a hypocrite, Sage," Veronica said, rolling her eyes.
"I tried to apologize to you about it but you threw a hissy fit and refused to talk to me! So, who's the hypocrite now?" Sage's question hung thickly in the air. Ronnie tried to take some deep breaths, not wanting the situation to get out of hand by making some stupid decision. Sage sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"Look, Veronica. I know you said you wanted space. But truthfully, I don't think it's just space we need. We can't just go back to being best friends if you're in love with me."
