Peace, wind rustling in the trees as I listen to the creek."Baaa"
I sigh with a smile as I look down at the baby in my lap, his soft curly white hair and his soft blue eyes.
"Yes, my little lamb? Are you ready to head home"
He squeals as his little hands clap together, I pick myself up off the ground before looking around the trail.
"Short trail, or long?"
My hopes of taking the shorter trail are crushed, his hands wave to the long way.
Of course the long way.
I silently pray as we go down the trail, I just want nothing to happen.
This place is supposed to be safe, but every safe place has its monsters.
I'm always anxious, I have anxiety, but I can't tell if something is following us or if it's my mind.
But the low growl behind me confirms it, it's not my anxiety, not today.
I quickly zip my jacket up around myself and Sage, right before bolting down the trail.
Fight or flight, I choose flight.
But I can feel the heavy steps behind me, low growls and snapping of teeth.
Soon enough we are surrounded, my heart racing in my chest as I hold Sage tight.
My cheeks sting from the cold as I glance around me, as a few steps closer to us they freeze.
Small cries from Sage have me quickly looking down, his bottom lip quivers as he sobs.
I kiss his forehead as I wipe his tears, my heart aching."It's alright baby, I've got you"
I whispered, soon my eyes look up at the wolves.
"I hope you all are proud of your selves, making my son cry"
As they all focus on me, they don't realize what's going on with their shadows.
Each one morphing into a shadow of a human, I zip my jacket back up as my shadow begins to grow under me.
A quick flick of the wrist and the wolves fly to the right, turning human in the process.
I quickly bolt to the left, my feet barely touching the earth at all.I slam through the door and my shadow slams it shut behind us, I drop to the ground before shutting the closet door shut.
I slip my jacket off to find Sage trembling, I hold him close to my chest as he grasps my shirt.
"It's ok, you're safe, safe"
My world looks like it's shaking, and my lungs hurt so much.
This is not the time for this, not now.I can't have a panic attack, can this wait?!
But my body said no, my vision just fades to black.
But what felt like minutes was actually hours, I woke up to my cell ringing."Hello? Oh my God! I'm on my way!"
I hang up quickly before taking Sage to his room, after a quick diaper change I put him in his car seat.
Hopping behind the wheel I take off, I was out for so long.
Pulling up to the school I see five little faces, they all climb in and say hello to Sage.
"I'm so sorry for being late, I lost track of time"
The woman waves me off as she smiled, the kids thank her for staying with them.
"It's alright, im a parent as well, it's a wonderful struggle"
We quickly say goodbye before I head home, my hands gripping the wheel tight.
"Papa, the lady who stayed with us is a wolf, we didn't say anything and she didn't either"
"Oh alright, all of you listen, when we get home do not just hop out, wait for me to tell you it's safe"
The silent nods of their heads have a weight lifted off me, but still, I am anxious.
I slowly pull into the drive, standing on the porch I see three men waiting.
"Shit"
I muttered, my teeth gritting together as my heart pounds against my chest.
"Kids, stay in the car"
I slide out of the car, shadow at the ready.
I approach with my keys in hand, my eyes locked on the door."Why are you on my property"
One begins to speak up, I already opening the door.
"Well, we wanted to know the same thing, seeing as you aren't human"
But before I could utter anything back, the kids all get out.
"DADDY! can we have chicken nuggets for dinner!"
"No! Fishy sticks!"
"Sorry, dad, they wouldn't listen, I have Sage"
I sigh as im pushed to the side, my small army charging for the TV.
Ash hands Sage to me, her beautiful emerald eyes landing on the men.
"Do you need help dealing with them?"
The four men chuckled, one, unfortunately, bends over to her level.
"Such a cute lil thing, but sad to say we aren't gonna play your game"
Before she can hit him with her power, Sage spits a small fireball that hits his mouth.
"Ah! Fucking rat!"
In moments Ash takes Sage into the house, my fist slams into his face sending him flying.
"What person in their right mind shouts at children like that?! And with that kind of language! All of you! Leave us alone!"
I try to slam my door shut but a hand stops it, soon im face to face with this giant.
"Don't hurt our dad!"
"More of us, we will hurt you!"
Ash stands at my side, her smile one I dread.
"We aren't afraid of you"
I lift her up to be at eye level, her eyes soften before she looks away.
"Call your siblings off, and get everyone started on baths"
I set her down before she runs off with the others.
"Cute, them trying to act strong"
Standing back up I glance at him, but his face turns back to worry.
"Trust me, they would have you begging for death, keep that in mind, what do you want? My family can't afford another move"
He sent the others off, he looks back at me with guilt on his face.
"To talk, sorry about them, I'm sorry for scaring you earlier, the pack is very defensive"
I roll my eyes before gesturing for him to come in, even though I don't want to.
And that's how my day has gone, not so smoothly.
A/N some chapters may end up being shorter than others, feedback would be awesome!
Thank you my noodles !
