Hands wrapped around Ella's waist and pulled her from the snow as Jon's body fell from her lap. Ella would have kicked and screamed, but the girl was too exhausted. She leaned into the stranger's body as she was carried up a flight of stairs and into Jon's office. Ser Davos sat Ella in a chair by the fire, and stood by the Snow twin as Jon's brother cleared off the desk in a quick swipe of his arm.
Those who remained loyal to Jon laid his limp body across the table. Ser Davos wrapped an arm around Ella, trying to console her as her eyes remained on Jon. The thought never even cross her mind as to why Ser Davos returned to Castle Black. The only thing she could focus on was her fallen brother.
The lone wolf rose from her seat as Jon's brothers surrounded him. Each bowed their head in respect as Ella traced each stab wound with her fingers. Her breath quickened as her eyes roamed over Jon's torso. Five stab wounds to his abdomen, and one to his heart.
Ella lifted her hand, only to see her fingers covered in Jon's blood. Ella placed her hand on Jon's heart, stretching her free hand to close Jon's eyes. Ella stepped back as Edd took her bloodied hand in his. Ella calmed her breathing, then spoke up, breaking the silence.
"Thorne did this," Ella spoke with bitterness dripping from her words. "He hated Jon for bringing the wildlings South. It was him, but he didn't act alone. Thorne had to have others help him.'
"How many brothers can you trust?" Ser Davos asked, eyeing Edd from across the room.
"Trust?" Edd repeated. "The men in this room."
"Does the wolf know?" Davos questioned.
"Yes," Ella nodded her head. "Both of them do. They're the reason I found Jon."
"We need all the help we can get." Davos stated. Edd looked to Ella, who nodded and agreed with the old man. The wolves needed to be with her and protect those loyal to Jon.
Edd made his way to the door, but stopped in his tracks. A knock came from the door, causing the men to remove their swords from the hilts, anxiously waiting to see who would enter.
"Ser Davos," a soft voice carried through a crack in the door, called for the man Ella.
Davos nodded, agreeing to let the woman enter. In walked the beautiful red woman who left Castle Black not long ago to fight for Stannis Baratheon. Edd slipped out to fetch Ghost as the woman approached Jon's lifeless body.
"I saw him in the flames," the red woman spoke. "fighting at Winterfell."
"He's gone," Ella mumbled. "He won't be doing much fighting now." The last thing Ella wanted to hear was nonsense from the Red Woman.
"I can't speak for the flames," Ser Davos said, "but he's gone."
Melisandre placed her hand against Jon's cheek and stroked his pale skin. The woman looked heartbroken at the sight of Jon's lifeless body. Ella strolled to the other side of the room, taking a seat by Jon. She felt herself growing angry as the Red Woman continued to gaze at Jon. This woman was a stranger to the Snow twins, and Ella did not understand why the Red Woman was upset with Jon Snow's death.
The Red Woman retired to her chambers shortly after Edd returned with Ghost and Asena at his heels. The white direwolf walked over to his master, nudging him with his cold black nose. Ghost realized that Jon was not going to wake, so the direwolf collapsed into a heap onto the floor next to Ella and Asena. Ella ran her hands through the matted furs of the wolves. They were the only connection she had to her family now.
"He'll have seen we didn't come. Thorne will have made it official by now that Castle Black is his," Davos stated, keeping his on Jon's body.
"I don't care who sits at the high table now," Edd said while glaring at his lifeless friend. "Jon was my friend, and her brother. And those fuckers butchered him. Now, we return the favor."
Ella exhaled loudly. She admired Edd's loyalty to her brother, but she knew they wouldn't win this battle. They didn't have the manpower to execute Thorne or anyone else who betrayed their Lord Commander.
"We don't have the numbers," Ser Davos warned.
"We have two direwolves," Edd motioned to Ghost and Asena, who sat by Jon's side.
"It's not enough. I didn't know the Lord Commander for long, but I have to believe he wouldn't want his friends and sister to die for nothing." Davos said.
"If you were planning on seeing tomorrow, you picked the wrong room," Edd said to Davos. "We all die today. I say we do our best to take Thorne with us when we go."
"Aye, we need to fight," Davos agreed, "but we don't need to die. Not if we have help."
"Who is going to help us?" A man questioned Ser Davos.
"You're not the only ones who owe your lives to Jon Snow," the old man said.
Edd and Ella glanced between each other, realizing that Davos was referring to the Free Folk. They nodded in agreeance as Edd stood from his seat.
"Bolt the door, and don't let anyone enter," he warned. "I'll be back as soon as I can."
Edd quickly left the room, leaving Ella and the remaining men behind. Ella prayed to all the gods above that Edd would return in time with Tormund and the others to help fight for their survival. Edd was their only hope to survive this mess, and Ella had to put her faith in him.
