Waves crashed on jagged rocks lining the shore as Ella, Jon, and Davos made their way to shore. Ella's boots sank into the wet sands as they exited the boat, finally arriving to the mainland. Two weeks on the open sea made Ella appreciate the ground.
The lone wolf's eyes widened as she examined the seat of House Targaryen. The castle sat perched on the highest cliff, overlooking the shores. The beaches were lined by stony hills, and the water was as blue as the sky above. The lone wolf read about Dragonstone many years ago. The Targaryens landed on Dragonstone when they first came to Westeros, and declared the island theirs. No amount Ella read could ever describe the beauty of Dragonstone.
Ella stood next to Jon as they walked towards their welcoming party. Tyrion Lannister stood next to a dark complected woman, surrounded by Dothraki on either side.
"The bastards of Winterfell," the Hand of the Queen greeted the twins.
Ella stared at her uncle as Jon spoke. "The dwarf of Casterly Rock." The trio stood with stoic expressions, until he smiled at the twins. Seven years had past since they last saw each other, and too much had changed during that time.
"It's been too long," Ella said to the Lannister man."I believe the last time my brother and I saw you was atop the Wall."
"We did," he said, nodding his head.
Jon and Tyrion shook hands as they recounted memories from long ago. "You were pissing of the edge, if I remember right," Jon smirked. "You seemed to have picked up some scars along the road."
"It's been a long road," Tyrion nodded, "but we're all still here." Tyrion introduced himself to Davos, before turning to the woman next to him. "Missandei is the queen's most trusted advisor. She'll help you with anything you need during your stay."
Missandei smiled at the trio before speaking. "Welcome to Dragonstone. Our queen knows this is a long journey, and she appreciates the effort you have made on her behalf. If you wouldn't mind turning over your weapons."
Jon looked puzzled at the request from the dragon queen's advisor, but reluctantly gave in. He untied his sword, Longclaw, from his waist and handed it over to one of the Dothraki guards. The other northern soldiers accompanying the trio were stripped of their swords and shields as well. Jon eyed Ella as she hiked up her dress and untied her dagger from her leg. Jon smiled as she did the same to her other leg.
"I wasn't going to come all this way unprepared," Ella shrugged her shoulders. "You have Longclaw, and I needed something to protect myself."
Feeling satisfied with their compliance, Missandei spoke once more. "Please, this way."
Davos walked ahead of Jon and Ella, trying to make small talk with Daenerys's advisor. He failed in is attempt and fell back to Jon and Ella.
"This place has changed," Davos noted, as they passed through the gates leading to the stony path to take them to the castle.
"And Sansa? Is she alive and well?" Tyrion asked. "Does she miss me terribly?"
"She is, and she prays to the old gods every night for you to return to her," Ella sarcastically replied.
Jon raised is eyebrows, glaring at the Imp. "A sham marriage and unconsummated."
"I don't think we asked," Ella sighed, not needing to know personal details of her sister's life.
Ella turned her attention to the waves around them. She had never seen water so blue or shorelines without snow. This was the furthest south the lone wolf had been in her life, and she wanted to take in every inch of her new surroundings.
Ella's thoughts were interrupted as a screech came from the sky. She looked up and saw a black and red dragon fly over head, causing Davos and Jon to fall to the ground. But Ella stood her ground, her bravery unwavering. Her blue eyes widened as the dragon met its siblings in the sky, high above the castle. The lone kept her eyes on the dragons as they circled the castle. Three real life dragons. Not some painting from a book. But real life, flying, fire breathing dragons.
"I'd say you get used to them," Tyrion began, helping Jon to his feet, "but you never really do."
"They're incredible," Ella whispered. "I've always wanted to see one."
Her words brought a smile to Tyrion's face. "Come. Their mother is waiting for you."
Jon and Davos exchanged glances while Ella gawked at the gorgeous beasts above. She felt a tug on her cloak, looking down to see Tyrion smiling at his old friend. He motioned towards the castle, and she reluctantly followed, glancing one last time at the dragons above them.
