Carmen POV
I found myself playing Mario Kart with Jared in Gray's apartment a few days later. Meanwhile, Gray himself was shopping, having left me with instructions to not let Jared burn the entire building down.
If Gray thought he needed to warn me, it was a wonder that Jared was an electrician in the first place.
After losing to me twelve times in a row, the blonde threw his arms into the air, looking defeated. He turned to stare at me as my character -Rosalina- danced across the screen.
I shrugged, hiding a smirk.
"I have never lost so miserably to anyone before, mate. How long have you been playing, exactly?" he demanded.
I resisted the urge to laugh. "About an hour."
"No, like, in total. Ever."
I pretended to think about it, then nodded. "Yep. An hour."
Jared's jaw dropped, and he looked to the controller in my hands, dumbfounded. "You've never played Mario Kart." It wasn't a question. "Okay, one, that is very sad." He counted off on his slender fingers. "Two, I'm extremely impressed, and three..." A mischievous glint flickered in his blue eyes. "I was totally going easy on you."
I choked on a laugh. "Oh, suuurrrreeee you were." I flung a pillow at his head, but he swatted it away with a childish giggle.
Standing, I made my way to the fridge. "You need a CopeCoke?" I grabbed a red can and tossed it to him.
He caught it and slumped into the couch, looking sullen and pouting his lips.
I cocked an eyebrow at him, amused. "What?"
He fingered the tab and mumbled, "Only Mario Kart losers need a CopeCoke." He then took a tiny sip, eyes twinkling.
I snorted and snagged my phone off of the counter.
Me: You almost done?
A few minutes later...
Gray: Just finished. Be there in a few.
Me: Hurry. Jareds being depressing.
I gave the blonde a side glance, and he noticed it immediately.
"What?" he yelped defensively.
Gray: Let me guess- you DESTROYED his face on Mario Kart.
Me: Yep
Gray: Ha. Knew you would.
I smiled.
Gray: BTW, I have a surprise for you.
My heart beat sped up, but I ignored it, as to not raise suspicion in the blonde, New Zealand type.
Gray: But only if you help me bring food in.
I was outside almost immediately, and a taxi soon pulled up to the apartment. Gray got out slowly, holding several bulging paper bags. I hurried to him, grabbing three of them.
