The spider lunged at Gria and landed directly on her chest, digging its black claws into the front of her shirt. Regular spiders were huge, but this one put them all to shame. The creature was easily two meters long, with dagger like claws and blood red eyes that glowed with an eerie red light. It had a massive mouth that covered most of its face and looked almost like it had been craved into its head by a knife and fangs almost as long as Doc's hand.
Gria screamed as it raised its head above her small form, poised to sink its fangs into her neck, but before it could, Doc's sword slashed against the spider's unprotected side left a log gash between its legs. The creature screeched in pain, but still clung to Gria's chest.
Gria rolled to one side in an attempt to get the spider off of her, but it still held on.
Suddenly, Doc pulled out his bow and in the blink of an eye, he sent an arrow directly above the wound in its side. The creature finally tumbled off of Gria and she sprang to her feet, quickly moving closer to Doc before the thing could strike again.
"Are you alright?" Doc asked her, not taking his eyes off the spider.
"I'm fine, it just scratched me," Gria told him, and he seemed to relax a little. She reached for her sword, but soon realized that she had dropped it when the spider threw her on the ground. It now lay useless on the moss by the stone alter. Doc seemed to notice as well, as he moved in front of her to make sure the spider didn't hurt her.
The spider in front of them skittered back and forth and stared at the two. It seemed like the creature was looking for some sort of weak point to attack.
Finally, the spider tensed and sank to the ground, ready to pounce. Doc both brought up his sword to block its attack, but before it could anything, an arrow struck it in the head, killing it instantly.
"Well that was a big spider," Wels said as he walked out of the forest, Xisuma following suit a few seconds later. Gria grinned at him. The spider may have been terrifying, but it couldn't hurt anyone now.
"Thanks for the help," Gria told him. "That was a close call."
"Uh-huh," Xisuma muttered. He had moved over to the spider's now still form and was now looking over several holographic screens that seemed to have information about the giant spider on them.
"Find anything, X?" Wels asked him.
"Maybe," X responded. "You might want to break that spawner." He briefly gestured to the block of obsidian in the middle of the clearing before returning his attention to the screens in front of him.
Without saying a word, Doc jogged up to the spawner and broke it with a few strong swings of his pickaxe. As he did so, the now dead spider sunk into the moss and X's screens flickered out.
"Come on," X told them. "Let's meet up with the others."
As they began their trek through the forest, they put away their weapons in their inventories and began to idly chat about random thing. No one had time to so much a shout before the second spider leaped out of the bushes and sank its fangs into Doc's neck.

Sorry it took me so long to update! I mainly just haven't been motivated to write, but I'm hoping the next chapter will be done soon-ish.
I still don't know how to end this so... bye!
