"Will you...will you be my girlfriend?" Hanbin asked Jisoo.
They could hear the distant laugh of the student council and basketball team from the BBQ party by the school's field.
Jisoo gasped. I know that he likes me, but why am I not prepared with this question? "I think..."
She swallowed. "I think..." she said slowly.
Suddenly, Bobby's face flashed in her mind. What in the world?
Jisoo is reminded of all the moments she had with Bobby, even as children. Sure, they've been rivals for as long as she could remember, but Bobby was also a friend and a source of comfort for her. He has been helping her in unselfish ways, even before he realized he had romantic feelings for her.
Jisoo smiled. Of course. After all this time...
"Jisoo?"
She snapped back to reality and saw Hanbin. "I think," she said again. "We're better as friends."
Hanbin sighed and looked down. "I thought that my efforts were enough to move you," he said quietly. "But it's okay. I know now that my rival has had years of advantage."
"Thank you for understanding, Hanbin."
"Of course," he walked towards her. "Friends?" he offered a hug.
Jisoo hugged him back. "Friends."
TWO DAYS LATER...
"I declare the Hyungdae Water Bomb Festival open!" Jisoo shouted in the microphone. The music blasted, and a fountain of colors shot up from the crowd. It was an amazing sight.
"We've done it," Jisoo gasped as she and her crew (student council and basketball team) looked at the partying students. "All right!" she turned to her members. "We've all worked hard on making this happen, and I can't be any more proud of you. Keep your in-ears on just in case there's an emergency, but I want you to have fun and celebrate, okay?"
"Yes, President!" they exclaimed. They immediately dispersed, looking for their friends and batchmates to join the celebrations.
Jisoo watched them leave and went her way. Little did she know, Bobby followed her.
She went to her secret garden. "I DID IT!" she cried. A weight was lifted off her shoulders. The opening was done - the only thing to worry about now is the closing.
"What are you doing?" Bobby asked, appearing suddenly.
Jisoo jumped in surprise. "You-you followed me?"
"Of course I did. You were acting strangely."
"I..." Jisoo held her breath to stop blushing. Why is he always around me? I don't want him to...notice my feelings....
"Yes?" Bobby stepped closer.
"I wanted to take a break, even for just a few minutes," she replied.
Bobby smiled widely. "And a break you deserve! I made you lunch today." Jisoo opened the lunchbox.
