I picked my way through the airport lobby and made my way through the maze that was the tiny coffee shop before sliding into a booth waiting for the boys to arrive. I didn’t have to wait long, the second the familiar dark head of hair appeared in the door way I was on my feet. The blonde standing next to him, who was obviously Luke, pointed me out to Calum, who turned around, my favourite lopsided smile plastered on his face.
‘KELSIE!’ He yelled.
‘CALUM!’ I cried back happily before jumping on him for a hug like the insane human I am. He caught me, obviously so used to my antics that he expected my reaction. His arms wrapped around my waist, and it was then that I realised how good it felt to be hugging him again.
‘I missed you,’ he mumbled into my hair, ‘I missed you so much.’
‘I missed you too,’ I told him. ‘God, your cuddles are bloody amazing,’ I added, speaking into his chest.
‘I’m not God, babe’ he laughed, ‘my name’s Calum. Have we really been apart long enough for you to forget that?’
‘Shut up, dickhead, you know what I meant,’ I said, slapping him cheekily. With that he put me down, keeping his arms around my waist, and tangling his hands into the ends of my hair affectionately.
‘So, you must be the infamous girl that this one can’t shut up about,’ Was Luke’s clever opening line.
‘Well,’ I replied, ‘Aren’t you just absolutely charming?’ I replied in attempted and failed sarcasm due to the fact that I couldn’t help smiling.
‘I just so happen to be The King of Charming, I’ll have you know, love,’ he said with a ridiculously attractive half-smile, ‘but you can call me Luke.’ He joked.
I’m pretty sure it’s ‘The King of Cool,’ or ‘Prince of Charming’, I answered calmly, knowing Cal would expect me to give his mates cheek.
Luke laughed. ‘So, Kaitlyn, right?’ He asked.
‘Kelsie, actually,’ I corrected him, ‘nice to meet you.’
‘Beautiful name for an even more beautiful girl’ Luke replied flashing another grin.
I felt myself blush furiously, without knowing exactly why, and turned to hide my face in Calum’s shoulder. ‘Babe, what have I told you about hiding?’ He asked, moving my hair from my face and gently forcing me to look at him.
My only response to this was to mumble uncharacteristically incoherent nonsense into the shoulder I’d managed to somehow stubbornly reattach my face to as Luke laughed, and Calum reached around me to hit him lightly over the back of the head.
‘You guys go sit down, yeah? I’ll get drinks and be back as soon as I can.’ Cal said as he grinned down and chuckled at me still clinging childishly to his shoulders. When I failed to move of my own accord, Cal shoved me lightly away from himself, causing me to stumble backwards into a bemused Luke, who managed to catch me before I fell, as he and Calum laughed at my un-coordination.
I managed to get up. Grinning somewhat evilly at Cal, I pulled away from Luke and moved towards my best friend, who chortled and started running away as if we were six-year-olds running innocently through a park without a care in the world. Luke closed a hand around my wrist and pulled me back before I had the chance to go after him. ‘I think you might just be the best thing that ever happened to that kid.’ He informed me, with his half smile making another appearance as he did so. ‘You amuse me,’ he added ‘I like amusing people, Kelsie.’ he went on. ‘The boys are going to love you.’
