Standing at the sink, I waited patiently for the water to heat up, before adding the detergent and dishes. Before I could turn the tap off, let alone actually start washing up, I felt a pair of arms slide around my waist from behind, and someone’s chin settle in to the crook of my neck quite comfortably. Whoever it was moved slightly and pressed their lips softly against my bare shoulder, causing me to shiver slightly. ‘You shouldn’t be in here doing this, you know;’ Luke mumbled, ‘what you should be doing is going swimming with the lads. Go on, I’ll deal with this.’ He insisted. ‘I can handle it, honestly,’ I replied. ‘Besides, I don’t quite feel like going swimming, anyway.’ ‘Do you want some help, at least?’ Luke offered. ‘With two of us working at it, it’ll get done in half the time and you can come swimming!’ ‘Thanks for the offer, its sweet.’ I told him, ‘you should go, though; hang out with the boys,’ I added. ‘I’ll manage this on my own, really.’ I assured him. ‘Besides, I couldn’t exactly go swimming tonight if I wanted to.’ I admitted. This was surprisingly easy for me, but that was because I’d been best friends with Calum all my life, so I was more comfortable with guys than I was with girls, even about stuff like that, even though most of the time it freaked them out.
‘I won’t go swimming either, then.’ Luke stated simply. His arms were still around my waist, and he had taken to gently rubbing my stomach as he spoke. ‘You should –‘ I began to argue but Luke cut me off ‘It’s not fair on you that you’ve come all the way here and have to spend the night entertaining yourself because of something that’s entirely out of anyone’s control.’ He reasoned. ‘Either I don’t go swimming, or you let me go tell the guys what you just told me, and none of us swim,’ He bargained. I stayed quiet, at that. ‘Right,’ Luke said. ‘So, shall I wash, or dry?’ ‘If I was getting my way, you wouldn’t be doing either,’ I pointed out with a laugh; ‘but I suppose,’ I sighed, ‘seeing as I don’t think I’m going to be getting my way with you anytime soon, you can wash, and I’ll dry.’ ‘Well now, that’s not entirely true,’ Luke grinned. ‘A gorgeous girl like you could definitely have her way with me, anytime she wanted.’ He made a point of winking cheekily at me, and I couldn’t refrain from smiling. ‘Luke, that’s terrible!’ I gigged.
Luke started washing up, then; stalling as he did so with jokes and whatnot as I dried the dishes and set them on the bench, so that I could put them all away at once. Luke started flicking water at me playfully. ‘Stop it,’ I pouted, ‘that’s had dirty dishes in it!’ I complained. Luke drained the sink, and reached for the portable tap, grinning mischievously in my direction. He laughed and began spraying me with water. ‘Stop it!’ I squealed, dancing around up against the counter trying to avoid being hit. ‘Luke, Luke!’ I pleaded. ‘No, it’s cold!’ I yelped through my uncontrollable laughter. Luke finally gave in and turned the water off.
