I grab the basket of clothes and bring them to my bedroom. I start folding the clothes and putting the away. Let me introduce myself, My name is Elizabeth (Lizzie) McGinnins. I'm 20 and live in my own house. I have a little sister named Gabriella (Gabbi) she's 13. My parents live about 30 minutes away with Gabbi.
I hear my phone ringing and grab it from my charging station. I have one area for all my electronic chargers.
"Hello..."
"Hello, this is Officer Nelson. Is this Elizabeth McGinnins?"
"Yes, what can I do for you officer?" I ask as I continue folding clothes.
"I have some bad news, your parents were in a car accident. They didn't make it. Can you please come and get Gabriella from the police station?" I stop folding and let it sink in that they are gone.
"Yea, I'll... I'll be there as soon as possible."
I grab my keys, run out the door, get in the car, and start driving. Although it is already hard to see through my tears I have flashback of memories.
When I was 6 my grandpa died, when I was 8 my grandma died, and my mom had a sister. A twin sister, she passed away due to cancer, when I was 10. Multiplies run in the family. My mom was a twin, my grandma was a triplet. I was supposed to be a twin, my twin miscarried. Gabbi was also a twin, but our brother passed away from Leukemia. That's another thing that runs in the family, cancer. Both my aunt and my brother had Leukemia. So I guess it's just Gabbi and I now, I'm gonna have to take care of her. This will be interesting.
I arrive at the police station and an officer is waiting outside for me. She escorts me trough the station and back by Gabbi.
"Hey Gabbi, how's it going?" She looks at me with tear filled eyes. One rolls down her cheek and she engulfs me in a hug.
"Why do the best people ever have to die?" she cries into my shoulder. I hold in my tears not wanting to make my her cry even more.
"Gabbi listen." She looks at me and I continue. "When you pick flowers, which ones do you pick?"
"The prettiest ones," she sniffles.
"See, God was just picking flowers, and he picked our parents. Their in a better place now, don't worry," I whisper to her. She smiles an I hug her.
"Thanks, for being here for me," she says wiping her eyes.
"Your parents were hit head on by a drunk driver, which immediately killed the drunk and your parents, I'm sorry for your loss," Officer Nelson explains. "Are you girls ok to drive home alone, I can drive you home and have another officer drive your car home."
"No we are fine," I tell the officer.
The drive home is quiet, and I can feel the tension in the air. Gabbi takes some deep breaths every now and then to stop herself from crying. When we get to my house, she breaks. She falls to the ground and screams and cries. I let her release all of her pain and then comfort her. "Hey sweetie, do you want your birthday present now or tomorrow on your actual birthday?" I ask trying to change the subject and mood.
"Now, please, maybe it will help with todays events," she sniffles. I hand her a small wrapped gift and she neatly unwraps it. She saves wrapping paper and reuses it. She slides out the gift and I take the wrapping paper. "Oh my god! It's One Direction's newest album. I can't believe you bought this for me," she squeals.
"Your welcome, now what do you want for supper?" It's getting late.
"Pizza!" she screams. Pizza is her favorite food, it doesn't get old. She opens the CD case and puts it in my stereo. She blasts it through the house, and I smile.
"Pepperoni or sausage," I yell to her.
"Both," I hear her yell back. I grab the pizzas from the freezer and pop them in the oven. Gabbi and I dance and sing to the music while the pizza is cooking. I hear the oven beep an take the pizza out. I slice them up and bring them to the living room.
After supper we head to our parents house, grab some clothes for Gabbi to wear. Then I let her grab what she wants before we leave to go home. "Can I bring my stuffed animals," she asks. I nod and she grabs her animals. "Can we come back tomorrow," she asks later on. I nod again and she brightens up. I promised her we would come back tomorrow no matter what.
When we get home, I tell her to get ready for bed and get settled into bed. Five minutes later she calls for me. I walk up there and she is bawling her eyes out. I run over to her, and she cries into my shoulder.
"Gabbi, Gabbi calm down sweetie, everything will be ok. Remember why God choose them, because he picked the prettiest flowers in his garden."
She starts to babble on about something but I can't quite understand her.
"Gabbi sweetie I can't understand you when you're crying."
She takes a deep breath, then starts to tell me what she said. "Two weeks ago mom bought me One Direction tickets to their concert in two weeks. Mom promised she would take me, but now she is gone. So now I can't go!" she cries.
She begins to tear up and I manage to understand the words, they were meet and greet tickets too.
"Gabbi calm down, I can take you. Because I have a secret crush on Niall Horan," I add in my head
"You will," Gabbi screams.
"I will," I say back.
"Thank you so much Lizzie."
"Your welcome Gabbi," I say embracing her in a hug
I start to leave when I stop and turn around. "Gabbi who's your favorite boy from One Direction?"
"Harry Edward Styles," she says. I smile and start to leave again. As I start out the door, she asks who my favorite one is, I tell her Niall, then I turn off the lights and walk down the hall to my room.
"Night Gabbi," I yell!
"Night," she yells back!
