Carmen's POV

"Where are you?" Esme spoke through the phone.

She hadn't attended college since her high school best friend was in town and wanted to spend the whole day with her.

"On my way to meet up with Dan and Arlo. How's your day going, man?"

"I'm having an excellent time here. Oh, my best friend says she'll meet you next time when she's here. She's gotta leave in an hour or so." She stated.

"Sure, no problem, tell her I said hi as well. And even before you say it, I'll tell Dan you said hi, don't worry." I chuckled.

"You know my next move, cousin. I always knew I could count on you." She proudly spoke.

"You can and you know it." I replied and told her to have fun before ending the call.

On my way towards the basketball court, I felt a little dizzy.

For a few seconds, I couldn't lift my head at all.

It hurt. More than a little. But I regained my balance and continued to walk towards the basketball court, to find Arlo and Dan on the side bench, laughing about something.

As I approached them, I noticed how much Arlo was sweating and the way his muscles were built. Damn.

His hair stuck to his forehead due to the sweat and his eyes sparkled, as him and Dan continued laughing about something.

"It's all inside talks, if you're wondering what we're talking about." He said and Dan nodded.

It was quarter to six and we were so busy chatting at the nearest cafe, munching on fries.

Dan's face lit up when he received a message from Esme saying she'd join us.

All I could do was look at Arlo who was already looking at me with the same expression as mine.

Esme came from behind and jumped on her boyfriend, causing them to kiss later.

"These two don't need a mistletoe at all." I spoke.

Arlo squinted his eyes in confusion.

Arlo's POV

Why did she have to look so hot?

Fuck.

I couldn't take my eyes off her. I didn't know how long I could hold it in.

"Dan? What's a mistletoe?" I questioned my best friend, who was a little more focussed than usual on his studies.

He immediately looked up from his book and had an unreadable expression.

"I knew you were dumb but today you are dumb on a whole new level." He bluntly said.

"I'm glad I'm making progress in something at least. Now tell me what it is." I glared daggers at him.

"Google it for yourself. And read some Norse mythology." He replied.

Just then, my laptop rang with an incoming call.

It was Omar.

"Finally, look who's here." Dan spoke at the laptop screen, as we settled for a long conversation with our best friend in New Zealand.

"Oh, Dan and Esme are dating, by the way." I told him, smirking.

"Damn, bro, what's happening! Dan's on fire huh!" He echoed.

It felt so good talking to him face to face after days.

These two were my family. Literally.

I always wondered how awesome it would be if the three of us attended the same college. Dan and I applied for college together while Omar had different plans.

He was always the one who had a different plan compared to everyone else.

Had it not been for these two, I honestly didn't think I would've survived school. Or I would've gone nuts.

"And you're still crushing on Carrie, aren't you?" He asked me.

All I could do was smile at that.

"When are you going to tell her?" He questioned again.

"I don't know. Not any time soon. I don't know her that well to confess my feelings for her." I admitted.

He rolled his eyes and let it go, knowing that he couldn't argue with me.

"What are you guys doing for Valentine's Day? Any plans?" He asked.

"I'm taking Esme out." Dan answered.

"And I have my Xbox."

He looked surprised.

"You guys aren't celebrating Carmen's birthday?" His eyes widened.

"Wait, what?" Dan and I expressed our surprise in unison.

"What?"

"Don't tell me she didn't tell you guys about her birthday too." He wasn't surprised then.

"So that means her birthday is on-"

"14th February, yes." He clarified.

"Why did she not tell us?" I wondered loud.

"She never told us about her birthday when we were her classmates in school, Arlo. She denied it so much before finally accepting that her birthday is on Valentine's Day."

"But why?" Dan asked.

"She thinks it's too clichè to celebrate her birthday on that day or something like that."

"Now that we know about it, we're going to do something."
I smirked, weaving out a plan in my mind.

Author's note:

Hey guys, I'm back.

College is amazing and all that but my schedule is pretty tight which is why my updates have gotten slow.

And sorry for the short  filler chapter as well.

Honestly, I can't wait for things to escalate between Arlo and Carmen and I really need some spice in my life.

I'll be back with another chapter soon, please bear with this one for now.
