Answer to a Prayer

When my eyes opened, I felt different this time. I was surrounded by a very blurry light and I was floating. The skirt of my nightdress was waving around along with my long hair, which was still light, so I could only assume that it was still night time and I was still asleep. "Mikaela." A familiar voice said as a dark figure emerged from the light. When the blurriness cleared from my vision, I was floating in the clouds, and it was my mother who was before me. "Mom?" I asked as we landed on a cloud. "My precious girl, you have been through so much." She said as she pulled me into a hug. I could feel my tears run down my face as I hugged her back, feeling the warmth of her arms around me felt both strange and relieving. "Mom, I don't know if this war is a good idea. I was certain before, but now I don't think I can do it." I said while lowering my head in shame.

"Mikaela, you are so much more like Niko Honshu than we thought. He didn't like the idea of war either, because the thought of innocent lives being taken was always a weight for him to bear. He never killed anyone that didn't deserve to die. He instead used is men to hold them back, and killed only the true enemy, but that was his choice." She said as we sat down on the soft puffy cloud. "Mom, you never told me that about him before, but how could he have done that without anyone dying though?" I asked as I looked at her, and she just lowered her head. That just told me that stuff like that never did end with no one dying. No matter what, people still died.

I sighed in disappointment before looking at the ground below. "Mikaela, you have to trust those around you, but you have to listen to your heart more in situations like this. What I recommend is that you follow in Niko's footsteps, in your own way." She said as she tucked some hair behind my ear. "Mom, what do you mean by that?" I asked as she floated around, the golden edges adorning her angelic wings shimmered as they moved. "Think about all the times you played with your brother and friends from back at home. The answers you seek are closer than you think, my darling." She said as I suddenly started levitating and following her as she flew forward.

Millions of other angels flew around, filled with joy, laughter, and music. "Whether you know it or not, hundreds of your ancestors watch over you in everything you do. Even if it feels like we aren't there." She said as we came across a gigantic cloud that was full of my Honshu ancestors. All my grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, everyone I ever learned about were all right here. I felt a warmth in my heart as they all began to fly around me and place a hand on me, or on a family member that was already touching me.

'No matter how hard you try

No matter how far you'll go

No matter how much you cry

We're always close at hand

No matter how far you wander

No matter how much you do

No matter how loud the thunder

We're your strength to stand'

My mother sang sweetly as my family started humming a wondrous chorus. A golden light surrounded me, and the amazing feeling that ran through me. I felt more tears, but more joyous than sad, ran down my face as my heart began to pound with a deep love I haven't felt in what felt like forever.

'No matter where you roam

No matter what you say

No matter how far from home

We'll never be far away

No matter the danger you face

No matter the troubles you cross

No matter how great the loss

We'll always leave a trace'

I closed my eyes as I felt my soul filling up with a special kind of love I never thought possible. I never really met any of them, but I could feel their love for me. It's like I knew them all my life and they love me for who I truly was.

'Never ever fade away

No matter the trouble you have faced

You never ran away from the race

We're all so proud of what you've become

Everything you will ever say

Will never leave a negative trace

On those who truly love you

Even if you swing the deadly mace

Never ever fade away'

As the light faded away, I opened my eyes to see I was back in my room, but I felt better than before. I had an answer to my questions. It came to me as they gave me that precious gift in the heavens, and I knew it was what my heart desired. I was going to war, but it was only going to be between the true enemies. It was just going to be Kai Kitsune and me, Mikaela Honshu.
