"Mikaela, you've done well." Mother's voice echoed all around me in the darkness I now find myself trapped in. "Mother? Where are we? What's going on?" I asked as She appeared before me. "My daughter, you are in a state of limbo. You're still alive, but your spirit is no longer connected to your body. You must now make a choice. You can either come with me and let your body die, or you can go back and live on. You cannot remain here in this darkness forever." She said as two portals appeared.
One showed the heavens where my ancestors awaited. The other was my body being held by Tyler, bandaged up and still breathing. "Mother, you will always be there to guide me no matter what I choose, right?" I asked as I looked back at her. "Of course I will, my child. I never left you, and I never will." She said as she tucked some hair behind my ear and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead.
"Tyler, I'm sure she will be fine." May's voice said as I looked into the portal with my body. She had a hand on Tyler's shoulder, and he looked very worried while staring at me. "But she should've woken up by now!" Tyler said as Master hovered a hand over me. "She is trapped in limbo, Tyler. Her spirit must make a choice. IN that battle, her body became weak enough to disconnect from her spirit." He said as he walked around the couch. "No.....Mikaela, don't give in! Please come back to me." Tyler said as tears swelled in his eyes.
"Mother, will Tyler follow me in I die?" I asked as I watched him bury his face into my neck. "Considering circumstances, most likely. You are the only thing he really wants to live for." She said as she floated toward the heavens portal. "Just take a deep breath, Tyler. Maybe she's already made up her mind and is just finding it difficult to wake up with lack of strength." May's voice said as I began to look between the portals. "Please, Mikaela. I love you." Tyler's voice echoed around me as Mother disappeared into the portal.
Now that I think about it, I don't remember much happening. I don't even remember passing out. The last thing I remember was being carried by Tyler. I guess I blacked out due to my wounds, and now am barely clinging to life. How that is possible, I know not. I know that I suffered great enough injuries that could've killed me, but I'm not sure at this point, since Mother said I'm still alive.
My head was spinning at this point, because I could feel both my lover and my family calling out to me, to join them at long last. Deep down, I longed to be with my mother, but Tyler gave me a new purpose. Did I still have it? Yes, I do still have it. To live on, have a family with him, make my family proud. I ran for the portal with Tyler, tears falling as the light consumed me.
"You have always made me proud, Mikalea. I love you so much. Keep living on, knowing that I'm always holding your hand." Mother's voice echoed all around me as a comforting warmth wrapped around me. I could suddenly see myself floating in this light, with my mother holding me. Her embrace warming my soul, as she stared humming the sweet melody of the lullaby she sang to me and my brother as infants. I felt at peace as I leaned into her embrace, my eyes fluttering closed as her voice grew slightly louder. "I love you, Mom." I said as tears slid down my face. "I love you too, Mikalea. Be the beautiful, smart, and strong woman you've become." She said as the warmth lured me into a peaceful sleep.
