The cold, frosty air nipped at him as he neared the shore. His steps left foot prints in the moist sand. Perseus stared at the roaring waves with a stoic expression. His eyes, the same color as the view in front of him, held no emotion. As they have been, for the last few months.
Ever since the curse had taken place, he had felt nothing. He felt nothing when he was at camp. He felt nothing when he traveled to Rome and Greece and did unimaginable things.
He felt nothing even knowing he was the cause of thousands of people's deaths.
He felt nothing when he saw the families of the dead mourning for them.
He felt nothing. His body, his mind, and his soul seemed to be unattainable, even to him. As if someone had him trapped in this small box of emptiness. Something was off. Despite the emotional detachment, Perseus knew that he was a changed man. Why? He didn't know. Who caused it? That he didn't know either.
Even though he didn't even seem to have a mind of his own, Perseus constantly feels a pull toward the ocean. He often ignores it, but today he found it bothersome to do so and followed the strong pull.
Looking at the ocean, there was a strange emotion that he couldn't place a finger on. The longer he stared, the more defined the emotion became. Perseus breathed harsher into the cold air. His mind was becoming fuzzy in an uncomfortable way. He shook his head and faced away from the ocean. His chest rose up and down as he forced his eyes shut and tried to identify the strange thoughts in his mind.
"What are you doing, son? Come on, join me." Lord Poseidon stood knees deep into the seawater, stretching a hand out to Percy, who was standing on the sand still. Poseidon stared at his son with love and adoration while smiling sweetly to him. Percy laughed and jogged to catch his hand. The moment their hands were about to touch, everything disappeared.
Perseus clenched his head in both his hands and growled, "What the fu—"
"Percy! I made cookies! They're on the kitchen counter." Sally called out to Percy. Immediately, Percy rushed to the kitchen to see Sally washing the dishes. He gave her a gushing smile, "Mom, you're the best." She laughed at him as she dried her hands clean. As Percy shoved two cookies into his mouth all at once, Sally pushed a strand of hair away from his face with a bright smile.
"ARGH," Perseus blinked harshly multiple times to get rid of the torturous images. His head was hurting beyond words now and he had no idea what to do. He gasped for air as he felt another image come before his eyes.
"I don't know Perce, do you really think I will?" Grover stared at Percy with self-doubt as they both sat on a log in the middle of the forest. Percy snapped his fingers, "Hey, if anyone here in this camp is worthy of finding love and being in love here, it's you. It just takes time. One day, you're gonna be getting married to the most amazing person you'll ever know and I'm gonna be right there beside you to make sure you know that you deserve it." Grover laughed, "I hope so, and if I ever get married, best believe that you'll be my best man. I need as much support as possible and you're my rock, man." Percy and Grover laughed in unison as they gave each other a one armed hug.
Now on his knees, Perseus wiped the sweat dripping down his face. He attempted to speak but was only made aware of the huge knot down his throat. Confused by his emotions, Perseus gulped roughly before he was thrown back inside his mind.
Coming from a jog, an out-of-breath Percy walked into his cabin and was welcomed with a beautiful blonde sitting down on his bed. "Sup, gorgeous," he told her as he kissed her exposed neck, resulting in her giggling. "Stop it! Ew, you're all sweaty, get off me." Annabeth laughed at his face and was greeted by a cunning smile.
He leaned in to kiss her and when their lips met, they both had identical thoughts of how much they loved each other. Breaking from the kiss, they both had the goofiest smiles on their faces. Percy cleared his throat, "So... watcha doin?" Annabeth glanced down at the sketch book in her lap and answered, "Nothing much. Just... doodling." Percy, eyes now on the sketch of a well- designed house, asked her with a smile, "Is that... our future home?"
Annabeth, now blushing a deep scarlet, mumbled to him, "I was just bored." Percy chuckled and kissed her cheek. "I love it. I'm glad that you're thinking about our future. I sure as heck do." Annabeth stared at him with adoration, "You do? You're not just saying that?" Percy gasped, "Of course I do! I love you Annabeth. And I plan on marrying you, having kids with you, and growing old with you. You got that? You're stuck with me forever, you geek." Annabeth giggled and grinned like never before, "I love you too seaweed brain."
While his head felt as though it was about to explode, Perseus felt a huge weight on his chest that would not go away. His veins bulging, Perseus gasped as he rubbed his chest to relieve the pressure on it.
What were these images and why were they affecting him the way they are?
Why is he seeing them in the first place?
Perseus gulped as he tried to concentrate on anything besides those flashes. Slowly, the pain dulled to nothing and he was able to get back on his feet. Feeling conflicted, Perseus turned to look at the ocean once more. Once he did, the pain came back, and he immediately turned away from the sea. Gasping, he closed his eyes.
What he didn't expect was hearing a woman's voice in his head. "Perseus. You have done what I have assigned you to do there in Rome and Greece. While the Gods and Goddesses are distracted by your attacks here, head to camp half-blood and ambush them. Slaughter them until they do not exist. After that, your job is done."
His mind wiped clean, Perseus opened his eyes. There was no explanation, but he had to do what the woman told him to do.
Perseus walked away from the shore as he planned how he was going to end the Demi-gods. Just like how he felt nothing when he attacked Greece and Rome, he would feel nothing when he attacks the camp.
In no time at all, camp half-blood will be... annihilated.
