My body trembled as I sat the now empty medicine bottle down . I laid back on my bed pulling the covers over my body .

My eyes began to close as I took in my surroundings for the last time . Alone. I stared up at the ceiling pretending it was the night sky . I daydream, for one last time .
——
The pain that she once had burned like fire faded away to an icy numbness. Black filled the edges filled her vision and the only thing she could hear was her own heartbeat.

Her breath came in ragged, shallow gasps. Seconds passed as she lay there . Surely she could tell that it was far to late for her to be saved . Finally she would be able to leave all the pain behind. She closed her eyes, She could die happily now. Her fragile, heart beat one last time.

When Esmee opened her eyes she was on a river bank no longer in her room. Cool water flowed by, eddying around the twigs of a fallen tree branch. Behind her was a field of her favorite flowers orchids , exactly the same as the one she would pick whenever she found them growing . Across the way sat a kingfisher, its blue plumage resplendent it what must be the light of summer, though early in the morning.

She cast her eyes up to find the sun but it wasn't there. Odd. Then she recalled downing a bottle of medicine but no pain. Oh . So perhaps she was in a coma, perhaps this was a day dream.

Esmee dipped her hand into the water and brought it out, watching the drips form their ever increasing circles on impact. So vivid.

She held her wetted fingers to the air, there was a breeze, just softly. Her eyes caught a dragonfly briefly .
"Heaven," Esmee breathed,"this must be heaven."

"No, not exactly." A melodic voice said breaking her from her thoughts .Esmee turned her head quickly to look at who spoke to her. Her breath immediately hitched in the back of her throat at the sight .
Esmee was wrong if she's ever seen something beautiful before now . The figure stood there with no definite face nor form . However it's beauty and warmth radiated off of her.

The figure slowly made its way over to Esmee sitting down close to her . "Now," she breathed out . "You are here right on time ." The woman says ."A little late actually."

Esmee was confused , it was evident on her face ,"I'm not sure what you mean ." She spoke looking down at the water , completely in tranced with it .

"My gifts aren't meant to live very long." She smiles touching Esmee's hair , gently stroking it .
"Gifts?" Esmee asked her eyes met the figure ."I'm not a gift to no one." She spoke weakly .

The figure eyes softens,"You are a gift , those people you came from .They weren't deserving of you. " The figure paused ."What if I give you another chance ?" She offered

"No," Esmee didn't hesitate. She didn't want to go back to that place . She felt like she had no reason too . Esmee had no desire to return back to suffering and rejection.

The figure stared at her ,"I will give you another chance to find a mate .. someone who will take care of my gift ..Ill make sure you'll never experience heart break like that again ." The figure persuaded the raven haired girl gently stroking her long flowing hair .
"Then once you're done you will come back here ." The figure hummed ."What do you say?"

Esmee looked around taking in a deep breath ,"Okay."
