4. Reconnect

My parents knew something was up when I entered the house, I just told them I was sick and wanted to sleep. They hesitantly agreed and let me go upstairs, turning the tv volume down to help me sleep.

The next day I woke up and told my mom I wasn't going to school. It was still early in the morning and my head was suddenly filled with thoughts of Hailee. I grabbed my phone to text her but I realized how we were slowly started drifting apart, I managed to make myself look presentable then walked to her house.

I hadn't walked with her in a while so when she came out she was surprised to see me. She was trying to look serious but failed when I gave her a huge grin. She skipped down her steps and gave me a little hug.

'Hows Gigi?'

'She's...I wouldn't know'.

Hailee gave me a weird look silently demanding that I explain what I mean. 'She cheated on me last night and I guess we're not together now'.

She stopped walking with her jaw on the floor. Then she pulled me into a tight hug on her tiptoes and I melted in her embrace. After a while she pulled away with her arms still around my neck, 'are you okay? Wait where's your backpack? Are you coming to school?'

'I'm fine Hailee, I'm just going to take today off I don't want to see her '.

She gave me a small sympathetic smile before saying something I never expected. 'hmmm...fuck it I'll take the day off with you'.

'OHHHH HAIZ DROPPED THE F BOMB'.

She punched my arm lightly as we both laughed. We were still laughing when I saw a familiar car drive past, it was a new red Ford Mustang...it was Miss Jenner's, that was the car I got into yesterday. I managed to just about see her and our eyes connected for a split second before she sped off.

Anyway me and Hailee spent the day riding about on bikes, then we went to a record store to buy some vinyls since we were both old souls. It was a really fun day and we both reconnected after drifting apart, we ended the day with some frozen yogurt which we ate on the kerb. Eventually I walked her home, we hugged before she slipped inside with a cute wave.

I sighed as I began walking to my house slowly. The sun was setting and the streets were empty apart from an approaching figure. My eyes widened when I realized who was coming closer and closer.

Miss Jenner finally reached me with a slight smile. She must have been on like a run or jog because she was wearing tight sport leggings and a sports bra, she had no make up on and looked amazing, glistening slightly with a thin layer of sweat.

'we gotta stop bumping into each other outside of school'. I chuckled and looked down at my feet feeling nervous all of a sudden. 'Are you okay...you know from yesterday? You weren't in school and neither was your friend Hailee. I mean I saw you both this morning and she looked ready for school.'

'Yeah I didn't want to come to school today you know because..I didn't want to see her. Hailee took the day off with me'.

'What did you both eat?', she asked with a cheeky smile.

'Frozen yogurt '.

She chuckled, 'yeah you've got some there, here I'll get it for you'.

She stepped closer so we were only inches apart, then she raised her hand and carefully used the pad of her thumb to wipe the corner off my mouth slowly. Once it was cleaned she stepped back clearing her throat.

'you know, if you need someone to talk to..I'm here'.

I nodded then we exchanged goodbyes and headed off in different directions.
