Is It Going To Be Alright?

Slowly, morning was beginning dawn over the new day. The sun was yet to dawn over the horizon but it's light was just reaching across the sky and turning it a dim grey-blue. A few clouds were scattered above the distance, some dusted light pink by the gentle sunlight flooding over the mountains. The chill from the night before still cooled the still air outside, stinging my skin in the early hours of the morning.

My heavy breaths turned to steam in the chill, disappearing in the air behind me as I moved down the street. My heart pounded in time with the sound of my feet hitting the concrete as I ran.

Sweat beaded on my body, dripping over my heated skin and making my spikey hair stick to my forehead. The black tank top I wore hung loosely off my chest and stuck to my back with sweat, the material stained darker around my spine and collar bone.

As the apartment block came into view, I flickered my wrist around to look at my watch, slowing my pace to read it. 5:45.

I let out an especially long breath as I stopped at the stairs, jogging gently on the spot. I had set out about an hour and a half ago specifically to jog before taking Akane to preschool and going to work. I hadn't done this for a while either after it became harder to manage work, sleep and my daughter all at the same time. She hadn't been old enough to leave by herself anyway, especially when she was a baby.

My legs ached as I moved but I pushed on, steps creaking as I jogged up and down them a few times. I gradually slowed my pace down as I made it the top of the stairs again stretching my legs out before I returned to my own apartment door.

I closed the door quietly behind me as I entered the half-lit hallway, careful not to make to much noise as I took of my shoes and entered the kitchen. I was filling a cup of water at the sink when I heard a voice speak up softly from the bedroom hall.

"You're awake." I turned to see Kirishima leaning on the wall, his crimson gaze watching me at the kitchen bench. He had already spiked up his hair in his iconic style, his pyjamas swapped with casual clothes and a backpack slung over one shoulder as he crossed his arms over his wide chest.

"Am I?" I sighed sarcastically, drinking the water down thirstily. I attempted to ignore the alpha in the corner of the kitchen but it was increasingly difficult when last night's events kept playing back in his head.

I wiped the sweat and water from my face with the front of my tank top, very aware that Kirishima had his eyes on me while my shirt revealed the pale skin of my torso. "Can you not stare so openly at me?" I sent a glare his way, letting my singlet fall back over my stomach. I chose to neglect the heat that softly flushed my already hot face, hoping it would blend in with my already hot skin.

The alpha jumped a little, quickly averting his gaze as he grinned nervously. "Sorry." I noted the light blush that stained his own cheeks but mentioned nothing.

"So, you went for a run this morning?" Kirishima wandered into the kitchen, leaning against the bench. "When did you leave?"

Pushing myself up to sit on the opposite bench, I thought back to the time on my watch when I walked out the door. "About 4:00? Maybe a bit later."

"Should have woken me up." He grinned cheerily. "It would have nice to go out jogging with you again."

I hummed in agreement. But it was noticeably un enthusiastic. That was partly due to the fact I would feel uncomfortable with him there with me but that's something I could push through emotionally. Truthfully, his fitness was currently much higher than my own and he would jog through my usual track with ease, leaving my in the dust. I knew it would happen and I didn't want to see that unfold.
