~Emma's POV~
After the party was over and everyone was cleaning up I escaped in to a room near the kitchen and shut the door behind me. Once I was alone I let out a deep breath and sat down in a chair.
It was great meeting Tyler's pack, they were all so nice and welcoming, and I could see how much they loved him, but that was not the problem. The problem was I am getting way too attached to these people. Ever since I was a child I was a strategizer. I always had a plan, and there was always an end game. But honestly, there is no clear end game this time. There was no way to "win", and I wasn't quite sure how to handle that. Originally, my plan was to come here for the mandatory time the council required and then once I finished this case I would leave and return to my coven. Unfortunately, now there was no way I could possibly reject my mate now, or leave these people. I have heard stories about what happens to packs with no Luna, they completely fall apart. I just didn't have it in me. But I also don't have it in me to give up being a coven leader to just to hang around and play housewife. I was so confused, but thankfully my friends would be here tomorrow morning and they would tell me what to do.
Until then I would just have to try to stay as distant as possible from these people... which was going to be hard. Especially Tyler, the man who can make my whole body tremble at his touch. I looked out the window and I could see the that it was starting to get dark outside so I decided I should probably go and see where everyone was.
I stood up to go to the door and right as I was about to turn the doorknob I over heard a hushed conversation happening right outside. Shit. This was awkward. I may not even be allowed in this room, and if I open the door now I'll probably hit them with it AND they'll know I was listening to their convo...which would definitely be uncomfortable.
So I did the only thing I could think to do, I stood there and waited for them to leave.
"This is insane he says he found his mate but it can't be"
"Yes you're right the general says it's impossible"
"Maybe it's some kind of plan? To use the mate to get out of this situation and keep the real mate safe?"
"No I don't think so... but we must speak to the general immediately and inform him of recent events. Remember, no phone calls and no crossing the border. Be safe brother."
I immediately opened the door to figure out who these people were but it was too late. There was no one in the hallway. I tried to track them using their scents but it was evident too many wolves had passed through this hallway and they were all sort of muddled together.
As I was looking around Tyler came up to me and put an arm around me.
"Hey babe where did you go? I've been looking everywhere for you" He asked.
"Oh just looking around" I said while flashing a smile that I knew would make him forget his question
"I can give you a tour if you want. Actually I would love to" He said, returning my smile.
"Yeah that would be great" I replied
"It's your house now too you know" He said sincerely
"Thanks Tyler" I said and averted my gaze somewhere other than his gorgeous eyes.
"It's getting late, do you want to head back to OUR house and find something to do?" He said suggestively
"Yeah.. um I should probably get some rest since I have training tomorrow" I said before quickly grabbing his hand and heading towards our house, hoping he wouldn't question the fact that I had basically just rejected taking the next step in our relationship.
When we got back to the house I changed and lied down in his bed and pretended to be asleep before I heard him come in and lay on the couch. I fell asleep to the sound of his gentle breathing and thinking about how peaceful he sounded.
