Sasha's POV
He has been silent since the ride started, and I also keep quiet. I am quite a talker, but I don't think he wants to be bothered.
I have been stealing a glance at him every now and then, but his face is just getting paler.
Is this because of the dead person from the operating room? I wonder, but I can't ask.
I suddenly hear a faint rambling.
Ignore.
There is a lot of silence, so the rumbling audibly continues. His jaw clenches and I can tell he feels embarrassed by this.
When did he last eat? He doesn't look like someone who cannot afford food. I think he has been so busy with the surgery, he must not have gotten time to eat.
I spot a restaurant and I think we should eat.
"I was going for lunch. Do you mind joining me?" I say after clearing my voice.
"You can drop me off. I will take a cab from here." He says, meandering away from what I said.
If this is what it has come to, then I will take it. I am going to have to take the clingy route.
"My treat." I say as I pull up to the restaurant I spotted earlier.
I know I don't have to be too clingy, but judging by the look on his face, I don't think he will feed himself. So take it that I am saving a life.
"Okay." He says softly.
We walk alongside each other and we enter the restaurant. The waitress greets us instantly with a smile. "Table for two?" She asks
"Yeah." She instructs us to follow her and we do.
"Mind if I order some wine?" I ask as soon as we get seated.
"Wine? Its two o'clock."
Oh yeah, I guess it is not a normal time to drink, but I can handle a few glasses to help him release his stress.
"Yeah, a glass doesn't hurt." I look at the waitress approaching us. I order red wine and she brings it very quickly. She pours us two full glasses and leaves us.
I lift up my glass. "Cheers." He lifts his eyes and looks at me. "To good wine." I add. He hasn't even touched the glass yet.
"I will order orange juice." I can see he doesn't want to drink at this hour but I know it will help.
"Just take one gulp. The gulp of passion." You know, that gulp to the wine.
"Last time I checked, it was a sip of passion, not the whole gulp." He sarcastically replies. Aww, I didn't know Mr. Standoffish has some sense of humor. I suppress a smile from forming on my face.
"Oh! You didn't hear? It got modified to a gulp." He let's out a small chuckle, and it sends a shock through me. That is so beautiful.
"If I didn't know any better, I would think you are trying to get me drunk." He says as he rises his own glass. "To good company." We clink glasses together and take a sip.
"You think I am good company?" I don't hesitate to ask. I didn't think I was. Infact, I thought I am annoying.
"An Angel." He says and I start feeling hot all over. I look down, to try and hide the crimson on my cheeks right now.
"You saved me the burden of thinking about this too much." He says as he takes another sip. My eyebrows rise in question.
"This was my first surgery as an on-call doctor. And this was my first patient to die since when I started this job." Oh! That explains all his earlier behavior. I feel sorry for him. The waitress comes back and we take our orders.
We talk about random things, nothing personal and by the time we are done, we have both taken three glasses of wine. I am so great at tolerating intoxicants, so I am good, but I can tell he must be feeling light headed, or even a bit drunk. Because he doesn't look bothered anymore. We get up to go after I pay with my credit card.
"You are not driving either, are you?" I guess not. I shake my head no and he stops a cab. We both get in.
He leans his head back and he is silent again, he must be thinking of something.
"Where do you get that power?" He suddenly says, making me to frown.
"I don't follow."
"You are a demon." He can't be this drunk. He is saying random things. I can't seem to understand what he is saying.
"No one gets me to eat with them, unless you have some demonic power." I let out a hearty laugh.
"You change your decisions real quick. Some time back, you said I was an Angel."
"I am making the final. You are a demon."
"Well I guess, I am an Angelic demon." We both laugh. We are getting along too well. If it's not the wine that is getting along.
"This has really helped." He says. "And I promise, I will pay you back for this. I really do appreciate."
I wave my hand. "Don't worry about it, I have also gotten someone to talk to over lunch." I say honestly.
"Still, I do want to treat you to some good meal, some day. Like tomorrow." I am really glad he insisted, because I wanted him to. But he is drunk.
"You might not remember." I say feeling a knot form at the pit of my stomach.
"I am sure I don't know what I am saying right now, but trust me, I will remember." He says as he gestures the driver to stop. The cab stops and he moves out, and in a little time, he is gone.
He said he will remember.
Oh dear! He might even not remember that he said he will remember.
I can't help but feel gutted that our time together is up.
