The next day went by slowly. His body was still sore from all the tackling and physical activity in general. He remembered getting home, going straight to shower, and then plopping himself on his bed where he got to sleep for a few hours before waking himself up to do homework. By then it was already early in the morning but it was all worth it he guessed.
Stumbling into the kitchen blindly, he rummaged through the pantry to find some sort of edible breakfast food. Or at least something that was edible and he was going to eat it for breakfast.
After pulling out what seemed to be a box of granola bars, he stuffed it into his backpack and stood up.
"What the fuck!" He heard a voice exclaim, and he was pretty sure he wouldn't be able to hear well for a couple of days.
Jeongukk looked towards the general direction the sound came from, only to be met with a breathless Hoseok flipping the light switch on.
"What?" He questions, and Hoseok glares because, really?
"Oh I don't know, sorry I am a normal human being who would shit their pants at the sight of a blurry figure moving around the kitchen in the dark!" He exclaims sarcastically, and Jeongukk just blinks.
"Would it kill you to turn on the light sometime? Damn." He says, fluffing down his own polka dotted pajama pants and ruffling his hair in a way a stressed out person would.
"Sorry." Jeongukk apologizes, and it's plain and probably made half-conscious, but Hoseok still sighs, walking closer to him.
He digs into his pocket, which has a surprising amount of space. "Here, Gukks." He says, handing the boy a 20 dollar bill.
Jeongukk looks up to him with a confused expression, even with his eyes not being completely open. "Hyung, I cant.." he starts, but Hoseok shushed him.
"Yes you can." He insists, "I know I'm not always here, but just know that I'm always paying attention."
He pats the brunette on the back, "besides, you deserve it." He adds.
"I would've gave you more if I could but.." he cuts himself off, seeing the boys happy smile.
"Thank you." He says it sincerely, and Hoseok just laughs. He punches him in the shoulder, "ahh- number one in the state huh?"
...
Jeongukk saw the bus stop come into view, shutting his eyes tightly for a second so that he could grip the fact that he was just in bed and now he's here. Whatever.
He plopped down on the bench next to a middle aged man resting on his arm, and thought about doing so as well but then an old lady came into view, leaning up against the bus pole and he just sighs because sushsbahshdbdbx.
He taps her on the shoulder, "halmoni, you should sit." He says as she turns around, pointing to his previous seat.
She slaps him on the shoulder lightly, "no no no why don't you sit? I'm fine. Okay?" She insists, but Jeongukk can't take that because who is going to make an old woman stand up for who knows how long.
"I like standing." He says, and it's a total lie especially since yesterday's game had his whole body hurting afterwards but he wasn't going to say that. He sometimes cursed his good heart sometimes. It was kind of annoying. But apparently it's the only thing that he got from his mother so he was going to take it.
"no—" she says, but Jeongukk just smiles.
"It's okay. I insist." He guides her to her seat, pulling the suitcase towards her and she sits down.
She reaches up to pinch his cheeks, which retreats into a dimpled smile after.
"Thank you handsome boy." She says and maybe Jeongukk doesn't feel so sore anymore and maybe his legs don't feel like giving out after all.
He bows, getting up to go lean upon the bus pole.
He closes his eyes for a moment, his mind going to think about sleep, school, football, his twenty dollars, food, how cute ta-
But then he receives another tap on the shoulder. This time it's a firm, bordering aggressive tap. And he knows this definitely isn't the old woman for earlier. He turns around with a pissed off look on his face, only to be met with a small teenage boy around his age?
"Hi." He greets, and jeongukk just nods his head up once. "What's up." He responds, it accidentally coming out to sound almost like a question.
"I saw what you did earlier. I am very impressed!" He says. Jeongukk gives him a confused look. "What?"
"You know..giving your seat up for that halmoni over there. It's a good deed."
Jeongukk nods, "right. thanks." He raises his eyebrows as he turns around. He didn't need the validation, but okay.
He receives another tap, and he really wishes he hadn't left his earphones at home. When he turns around again, the boy is holding a paper. Where he got it from? He didn't know.
"Sorry." He scratches his head, "I know that you probably knew that already—but here." He hands jeongukk the paper in his hands, and he glances down.
"What's this for?" He asks, and the boy points out specific words on it.
"It's a club I'm in. We give back to the less fortunate and seniors and stuff too. We're looking for good people to help." The high schooler explains, jeongukk looks up.
"Look, any decent person would do that. I'm not a saint or anything, sorry." He says firmly, handing him the paper. Then he finally turns around, praying that no other words would be said. Luckily for him nothing else was.
