CHAPTER ELEVEN:
Old Friends & New EnemiesJeongukks eyebrows remained furrowed as he threw repeated punches against the boys face, the two of them on the poorly kept grass of his front yard. He ignored Hoseok, who he had assumed was yelling for him to stop. The other struggled against his hold, but he kept him pinned down with one hand—continuing even upon seeing the string of blood appear from his nose.
"Jeongukk, Hey.. Jeongukk." He heard another voice try to catch his attention and upon hearing it, already knew who it was. "Dude, he's gonna die. Let him go."
For some unknown reason, Jeongukk made the decision to listen to his words and stopped punching. Han-bin was left half unconscious—but the brunette couldn't find it in himself to care. One of his friends picked him up.
"Get the fuck off of our lawn!" He heard Hoseok say. Jeongukk wiped a drop of sweat off his forehead, spacing out as everyone's words strung together.
"Jeongukk." He heard the person say, and although he was still angry, he turned away from the situation and walked towards the house. The blonde followed him onto the porch, watching him slip his shoes off.
"Dude, come on." He barely had enough time to finish his sentence, before the other began talking once more.
"Look, if you're here to make the situation worse, just leave." He held onto the doorknob, turning to face him. His eyes left his for a moment, looking over his shoulder to check on Hobi. Thankfully, he was only watering his plants as if nothing ever happened. Though, Jeongukk knew him well enough to know that under the calm facade was a large amount of panic.
"I'm not, it's just—we haven't talked much lately." He licked his lips, watching Jeongukks face turn confused.
"Well, why would we? Everyone's been giving me shit since I transferred schools." The brunette laughed bitterly. "Why don't you go follow them, they shouldn't be far."
He shook his head. "I am really sorry about that, dude." He sighed. "Really—I don't understand why everyone in this town hates success so much." He went on.
"I don't think it's the success that they hate." Jeongukks eyes were fixated on something else when the boy looked up, but he could see the disappointment he felt. "—Might just the fact that someone else has it."
He nodded, looking down. "About the Han-bin thing." He began, when he moved his gaze up Jeongukk was looking at him. "I don't really hang out with them anymore, well..haven't for a while."
Jeongguk nodded. "Oh." An awkward silence overcame the both of them. "Good for you..I guess."
The blonde gave a weak smile in return. "They aren't really the most fun to be around."
"I know." Jeongukk purses his lips, before sighing silently. Then he turns his body towards his completely. He pretends to ignore the slight panic in the others eyes.
His hand comes out in front of him in the start of a hand shake.
The blonde scans his hand as Jeongukk leaves it hanging in the air. He juts it forward slightly. "Well..are you gonna take it?"
"O—oh, yeah." He laughs to fill the awkwardness. Then he shakes his hand.
"Hey, we really were close before, hm." Jeongukk says when they pull away. The boy nods after a second or two. "I'd say so, yeah."
