Chapter 14

Why am I so special to him? Is what Sid said is true? Is he really in love with me? No no no. This can't be happening. 

"Anjali, I want to ask you one thing. I will never force you but just think about it. Can you marry him? I feel he will be very happy with you and I promise he will take care of you really well. I just want you to be with him forever," she said dropping a bomb in my brain. 

I was shocked is an understatement. I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry and I chose the former. "Haha aunty, you must be kidding. How can I... I can never do that. Please aunty, don't misunderstand me. I have seen Arjun as a friend and nothing more. Moreover, I am engaged aunty. I am really sorry...You know.." I informed her that I was engaged even though I am not interested. Thank god Arjun was not here, or this would have been too awkward.

"Its okay Anjali. Don't be sorry. I guess I was too abrupt. I am sorry if I scared you. Just stay with my son as a friend. Even like that he can be happy. It's just that, as a mother... I feel you are the best for him," she said clearly disappointed. I felt bad for disappointing her but I cant help it. Marriage and me are like opposite poles. "Sure aunty," I said. Soon, the party reached its end. 

"Bye Arjun, I will be leaving now," I said waving him bye. "Anjali, how you will be returning?" he asked, maybe he saw my car was missing. "I will take a cab to home," I said as a matter of fact. "No Anjali, its really dangerous for a girl to go by a cab at this hour. I will ask Arjun to drop you," It was his father now.

After the whole family trying to convince me, I agreed. "Anjali, will you mind if I drop you after going somewhere else first. I am sure you will enjoy it," Arjun asked me. I had no reason to reject so I just smiled. I trusted him. Its not that he is going to sell me right? I closed my eyes for a while to rest and soon I heard a voice, "Anjali, wake up we are here." Did I just fall asleep? 

I got down the car and I noticed it was a riverside. The view in front of me is simply amazing. The bright moon on the sky and its reflection on the river, with the water flowing. The trees with colourful flowers shined brightly due to the moonlight. It was spectacular. My smile automatically grew wide.

"Arjun, it is amazing. Wow!!!" I could not form enough words to describe the scene in front of me. "I am glad you like it Anjali," he said. 

"No I love it!!!" I exclaimed. We sat by the riverside and started enjoying the view in front of me.

"It's my secret place, Anjali!!! No one knew about this and you are the first I have ever brought here. Whenever I feel sad or depressed, I will come here," he said. Why am I so special to me? Sid's words kept replaying in my head. 

"What do you have to be sad in your life Arjun? Your life is like perfect. You have the most loving family one could have. Your mom, dad, sister, everyone cares for you. They are doing everything they can to see happiness in your face," I said. 

"That is what makes me sad Anjali. I am not their son. I was adopted. They gave me the best life and I have not done anything to make them happy. I am not a good son to them," he said and his face turned ugly.

"Arjun, what makes you think like that? The few hours I spent with them, shows me how much they are proud of you!!! Like really... I am not telling this to make you feel better, but its the truth. You are a good son Arjun. Its just that you don't smile good enough," I said and he smiled.

"You know Anjali. You changed me. I have never wanted to be friends with anyone in my whole life. I have always been rude to people and I have never apologized to anyone for that. You were the first. I don't know why but i just wanted to be friend with you. I didn't felt bad apologizing to you," he said and I was shocked. 

"Then, I am glad that I was the one who changed you," I joked. After that, we talked about some good things. It was 2.30 in the morning when we decided to call it a night. He drove me to my home.

"Thank you Arjun, It was nice talking to you," I said and he smiled. I got off the car and waved him bye.

"Anjali!!!" it was Raghav. What the hell is he doing here? "So did you forget that your engaged? What time is it Anjali? Its 3 in the morning and you were out with a man? Did you have a good night with him?" he said words he should not have.

 "Mind your words Raghav. We are just engaged, I am not your wife and you are not my husband," I didn't find the need to explain that Arjun was just my friend. Why would I tell him?

"Just because we are not married, it doesn't mean that you can go around having sex with men," he said and a punch landed on his face. It was not mine, it was Arjun. Arjun beated him like a crazy man. I tried to stop him before he could kill Raghav.

 "Arjun, for god sake stop!!! And you Raghav. Leave now!!! I don't even want to see your face!!!" I shouted at Raghav. "Anjali you wait till I tell my mom about this!!" he glared at me.

 "Ohh please mama-boy!!! Go do whatever you want but before that please leave!!!" I said and turned to Arjun.

 "Arjun you are bleeding!!!" my face turned ghostly pale seeing blood on his hand. I am not sure if it was his or Raghav's but I panicked.

"Are you crazy? Why would you beat him like that? He could have died!!!" I said as I applied ointment on his hand.

 "So, you care about him?" he asked and I sensed jealousy on his voice. "Idiot, why would you want to spend your life in jail killing him?" I asked him and he smiled.

 "I care about you Arjun. I don't want my friend to commit murder for my sake!!" I said. "But, I couldn't control myself when I saw him using words like that to you!!!" he said clenching his hand. "You are protective over me just like Sid!!" I said and I noticed his expression changed. "Wha.." he cut me off in the middle.

So, guys. I am excited... Raghav do deserve a good beating and I am happy that Anjali protected Arjun over Raghav. Thanks for reading though.
