Office

"Mam, I just received a call from committee member saying that there is a business conference in LA. If you can attend it, our company can receive many good projects to work on. They said many rich people also attends the conference. This will be good chance for our company to expand our market in LA," Keerthi said and I just nodded.

"Email me the details and arrange the schedules," I said and went to my cabin.

'Did you think about what I said?' It was a message from Sid.

'About what?' I asked even though I know what he is talking about.

"Anjali, don't play dumb with me," he called me at once. I just smiled and said "Sid, I told you. This is not..."

"Enough Anjali, how long you are going to say the same excuse to me? Okay like this, if that incident didn't happen 4 years ago, would you have given a chance to Arjun?" he asked me.

"There are no if's and but's in life Sid," I said bitterly.

"Come on Anjali. Just answer me ok," he nudged me.

"Yeah maybe. Maybe I would have. But, now is not that case. It happened. I cannot change it," I said, truthfully. I think I have some feelings for Arjun, even though I don't know whether it was love.

"Anjali, you cannot change it, but you can move on. If you didn't do what you did, another girl's life would have been ruined. Would you have wanted that?" he asked me.

"Sid... But he was my brother," I cried.

"It is not your fault," he said trying to convince me.

"Sid, leave it!!! I am going to LA day after tomorrow. Will be back by next week," I said, changing the topic and he just sighed.

"Inform your uncle or else he is going to call me telling you were kidnapped," he laughed and I smiled.

In Los Angeles

I called Sid to inform that I have landed safely. I saw a tall, fairly built man standing holding my name. I shook my hand with him and went to the hotel the committee member arranged. My mind wandered around, thinking about Arjun. How nice it would have been if I never met him, if he never come to my home, if I did not got drunk on that night, if I did not went to that dinner with him. But yeah reality hit me, there is no ifs in life.

I opened my email to see there is a get to know party with the investors at 7pm. It was 2pm and I decided to take a short nap before going to the party. Call it jet lag or heart break, sleep was important at this moment.

I went to the party hall with a personal driver. Even though I am still young, I was still considered a successful businesswoman, so I was given a personal driver. I wore a formal shirt with a knee-length skirt. I looked like a professional, well I really am.

I entered the hall, I didn't know anyone there. So I searched for a group for me to mingle with. To be successful in business, you not only need brain, but also talent of talking people into believing us. And I am very good at it.

Soon, I found Mr.Albert standing with a wine glass alone. I went to him as I know he is one of the main investors present today. He was in his mid-fifty and his hair was a mixture of black and grey. He looked younger than he was. Suddenly I heard his voice, "Hi, Mr.Albert," Arjun was there.

I excused myself and went to a corner. Why is this happening? Is he here for the conference as well? But he is really not into real estate. Do I have to meet him more often now? Is this fate playing with me or he is doing it on purpose. I turned towards Mr.Albert to make sure I was not hallucinating. NO I wasn't. After a while, I regained my composure and went inside to mingle again.

The week went by me convincing people to sign deal with me. I must say, making people interested in what we are talking is really difficult.

Soon, it was the last day of the conference. "Anjali, when are you coming back?" Sid asked. "Awww, you missed me aah?" I teased him. "I coming tomorrow. I think my landing will be around 9 in the night," I continued. I manage to get two big deals including Mr.Albert's. I am sure my company will reach new heights with this deals. Tonight, we had a party, probably to celebrate the ending of the conference.

I reached the party hall just in time. I noticed that this hall is much bigger and better than the hall on the first day. I am an extrovert so I can easily make friends. Even though 1 week is not a long time, I managed make a few friends. In this one week I tried my best to avoid bumping into Arjun. Me and my new-found friends started tasting each and every brand of alcohol available there. I knew Arjun was there, but I tried to ignore him as much as I can. I acted like I didn't even notice him. I had a very low tolerance so I got drunk even before the party finish. I informed my friends that I will be going back to my hotel room and went outside to search for a cab.

"Heyy beautiful. Want a ride home?" a fatso asked me. He seemed drunk and I had no good feeling about him. "No thanks," I rejected politely. I stumbled towards the road to search for cabs. Suddenly the fatso grabbed my wrist and pinned me to the wall. I reflectively sobered up.
