A/N This scene is what I wanted the bench scene to be, I still love it but this is what I feel could have taken it to the next level. Some other details have been changed so that it fits with the rest of the story. PS - this chapter was confusing as a flashback so I made it happen in actual time so it made more sense.
Since Buffy's Mum had allowed him to miss curfew (just this once) Cyrus and TJ wandered off to the park.
After running around cheering and a grossly unfair game of leapfrog, Cyrus and TJ sat down on a park bench.
"This is what makes it so hard when you leave. We have the best time together when you're here and everything reminds me of you when you go." Cyrus said the darkness of the sky was supplying him with boundless courage.
Online, they were safe behind screens and regulations. In Utah, there was nothing.
"TJ, how come nobody calls you Theo anymore?" Cyrus asked,
"I reinvented myself when I moved to Nevada. I stopped wearing my glasses and going by Theo because it was how I coped with my homesickness. Theo was an extremely freckled church boy who loved his best friend. TJ was the basketball guy that was well-liked but not well-known, he had it easier," TJ revealed truthfully,
"So then, which was I dating?" Cyrus asked, raising his left brow.
"Both of us, You're the only one who knows both of us," He completed.
"Both of us owe you an apology, Cyrus. For letting you feel alone. Sorry for ever making you feel like you couldn't tell me who you are. Sorry for ever dating someone as awful as Kira. Sorry for not saying sorry," He apologised profusely.
"Is there anything else either of you wanted to tell me?" Cyrus asked.
"Do you need to know anything else, Muffin?"
Cyrus inched closer to TJ and rested his head on his shoulder and they interlocked their hands.
"I was so proud to be with you, Theo. You too, TJ" Cyrus whispered.
"Do you still like me?" TJ asked, tugging on the lobe of his ear in anticipation.
"I still love you TJ. You too, Theo" Cyrus responded.
"Do you?" Cyrus asked.
"Always," TJ responded instantly.
"Then we can wait to be together when the time is right. For now, let's be Underdog and Not-So-Scary-Basketball-Guy."
"Or Cy and Teej," TJ replied.
"Or Theo and Muffin," Cyrus said.
Any way you phrased it, they would always be themselves and they would always find each other.
