I stared after my mother and Raven, "wait!" I wanted to yowl, "Don't leave me! I need you!" But I held my tounge, watching dismayed as they left. I heard the sound of a door behind me. I spun around, bristling. Nofur! Before I could act, the twoleg scooped me up and made a strange mewling sound. Is that how Nofura talk? I wondered. Suddenly, she stood up, opening the way into her den, and shoved me inside. I yowled in shock, "what are you doing, mouse brain!?" I unsheathed my claws, ready to fight my way out. But Mouse Ears words echoed in my mind, be nice to your house folk. I froze mid swipe. Sitting down, I forced a purr. The startled twoleg slowly edged closer. Then, I heard a sqeak of delight. Spinning around, I saw a Nofur kit racing toward me. Before I could stop it, it scooped me up, and squeezed I yowled. What is this?! Touture?! The big Nofur yowled in a commanding voice. The little twoleg dropped me, and raced away. Sighing, I sat down And smoothed my fur. Then, I explored. I have to say, I'm almost liking it here. Its warm, there's food, its doesn't taste very good, but its food. The big twoleg came over and led me over to a twoleg thing. She picked me up and put me on top of it. I pressed my nose into it. Sighing, I fell asleep.
I woke to the smell of twoleg food. Looking over, I saw a bowl filled with what looked like rabbit droppings. Grunting, I struggled to my paws and bit into a few of the pellets. Swallowing, I shuddered, and lapped thankfully at the water. The little twoleg padded over with a... Of thank goodness... A mouse attached to a string. Crouching, I leaped, landing on the mouse, and bit into it. It tasted like fur. Not a real mouse! Growling I shredded the twoleg toy. The kit yelped. Ignored it and curled back up in my bed. That's Almost all I do now. Eat and sleep. Moons must've past, but I didn't notice. After awhile, I started allowing the twolegs to play with me. I let them pet me. One day, while I was waiting for my food, the twoleg opened the door. I couldn't believe it. Was she letting me leave? I took the chance. I raced out, hardly knowing what I was doing, and leaped up onto the twoleg boundary. "Yes! I'm free!" I yowled in delight. "Your never free. " a voice behind me almost made me fall. Unsheathing my claws, I whipped around, "Who are you?!" "I'm Jake." The tom said. He was a ginger and black tom. Seeing his coller, I guessed he was a kittypet. He nodded to his collar. "Once you have this, your bound by the twolegs. They own you." I growled, "Mouse brain! I don't have a coll-" for the first time, I felt a tightness around my neck. Looking down, I saw a pink collar, with little things that looked like snow, "what?!" I spat. Jack looked at me, amusement alight in his eyes, "You're new." Jake pointed out, "you'll get used to it." I snorted, "I don't wantto get used to it!" Turning, I stalked away. I'llneverfindRaven. OrMouseEar. IhopeRavensokay.... Shaking my head sadly, I jumped back down into the twoleg yard, and hurried into the house.
The next few mornings where the same. The twolegs could continued to let me out, but I didn't want to run away and leave them. The kits really loved me. This morning was different. I went, out, exploring more and more of the twolegplace. "Hey! Hey you!" I spun around and saw a pretty orange tabby sitting on a fence, "I'm Mitzi. Who are you?" The she cat, Mitzi, stared down at me. "I'm Starry." I mewed up at her, sit down a d washing my ears. Mitzi surveyed my black and white pelt, "Ah! You must get you name from the stars on your ears!" She purred triumphantly. I fliked my rail in surprise, "That's right! My father named me." Mitzi glanced around, "Does he live here?" She asked. I shook my head, "No." Sudennly I found myself pouring out the whole story- how my father, Snake, ran away just after we where bodn, about the death of Willow and Jay, the lose of Raven and Mouse Ear, and my journey here. Mitzi listened intently, "That's sad." She said after. I dipped my head, "I know. Where do you live?" Mitzi flicked her tail at a red den next to mine, "that's my house." Shd mewed. "House?" I asked, confused, "Oh!" Mitzi laughed, "you must be new. Housefolk call those dens 'houses'." I stared, "Huh." I giggled. "Where do you live?" Mitzi glanced around. I nodded to my little blue 'house'. "There. Right next to yours." "Great!" Mitzi announced, "We can see each other a lot." I purred happily. I liked this cat. She was funny. And nice. "Well." I said, dipping my head, "I was wondering.... Have you seen a cat? Raven? I mean, black she cat with green eyes?" Mitzi shook her head sadly, "No, I'm sorry, Starry. If I see her, I'll seek you out." She purred, flicking her tail. Sighing, I tried not to get disappointed, "Alight. Well , see you around, Mitzi." She tabby dipped her head, "Right. You, to." She murmured, leaping down off the fence and padding away, tail swaying. Turning, I to raced back to my twoleg house. Inside, I bit into my pellets, gagging. "I'd give anything for a nice, juicy mouse right now." I grunted. Laying in my twoleg blanket, I closed my eyes and drifted into uneasy sleep.
