I woke at dawn, a feeling of forbiding prickiling up my spin. Somethings wrong. I looked around at my kits. One...Two..Three... My heartbeat picked up. Wheres Midnight? A loud sigh answered my thoughts. I looked behind me and saw Midnight, curled up on my back. Sighing in relief, I gentily placed her on the ground next to her littlermates, got up, and stretched. As I was watching my kits sleep fondly, Swoop padded up behind me. "Hey!" She purred fondly. I shushed her with a glare. "Your up late." Swoop whispered, sitting down. I shrugged. "Yeah. Bad dreams." I shuddered as I recalled the nighmares. I was stuck in a den made of sticks, with cats that had angry eyes judging my everymove. Then, at the end of the dream, I thought I had heard tow simple words- "Help me." Shaking away the scraps of the dream, I turned to Swoop. "So, you ready for a hunting patrol?" Swoop nodded "Yeah. Just us?" I nodded. If Raven was still asleep, then that must mean she didn't sleep well, either, so I decided to let her catch up on sleep. I quikcly woke the kits, instructed them to find there trainees, and started toward the entrance. Halfway there, I acidentally steped on a stick, making it crack loudly, and I watched in confusion as the cats around me jumped, as if scared. I then relized that all the cats seemed to be nervous. Proably because of Snows death. I tried not to think about my dead mentor. Ignoring the cats, I tdashed out of camp after Swoop. I closed my eyes, listening to the birds chipping, the wind howling, waves crashing on the shore.... I smiled. Opening my mouth, I tasted the wind. I picked up the sent of Seagull. Opening my eyes, I glanced over at Swoop. She shook her head, confirming that there was no eagles, or hawks, for that matter. Sighing in relief, I opened my motuh to sent the air again, this time detecting that the seagull was a few fox legenths to my right. Dropping into a hunters stalk, I crept forward. Thoughts whirled throguh my head, but I tried to block them out and concentrate on hunting. Why was I stuck in a den made of sticks? I've never seen anything like- A loud squak interuppted my thoughts. I had gotten to close to the seagull, and now it was flying away. Yowling in anger, I leapt into the air, snagging my teeth into its talons, but only came down with a mouthful of feather. Hissing in frustration, I stalked back to Swoop. To my surprise, she didn't look mad. "Bad luck." She sypanized. I snorted. "That might've been the only prey this cold-water!" I grumbled, remembering the tribe cats name for the cold seasons. Swoop lowered her voice. "It looks like you might get anougher chance. Look." She nodded to where a crow had just landed, and was pecking around in the sand. Banishing any thoughts from my head, I dropped into a crouch. Stalking forward, I circled around the crow, turning when ever it turned. Finnaly, I pounced, giving it a quick nip on the neck and padding back to Swoop proudly. "Great catch!" She praised. I beamed. "Lets go fishing." I sugjested. Swoop agreed. Like always while fishing, Swoop stood on the long twoleg bridge that went out over the water, looking for sharks, dolphins, eagles, and hawks. When she hadn't spotted any dolphins or sharks, I jumped in. Cold but firmilular water flooded around me, greeting me with soft whispers. Welcome, Starry.... Welcome... My mentor, Snow, had always told me I was born a water-cat. On the first day of being a to-be, I had fallen into the water while Snow was showing me how to fish, and was swimming before she could come rescue me. I had asked her why it was so strange that I could swim. I had swam in creeks and lakes before I joined the tribe. Snow had explained that sun-drown-water was much harder to swim in, due to the waves, salt, and predators. I peared through the blue-green waters, trying to focus on hunting and not memorys of my dead mentor. Sun was shining on the water, casting pools of sunlight under the water, making the pod of fish I spotted sparkle. Mouth watering, I swam toward them, remembering to paddle slowly so I didn't scare the fish. Finnaly, I dove as fast as I could at them, making them scatter in all directions. I grabbed a few in my mouth and claws before heading to the surface, lungs gasping for air. I spat the little silver fish on the twoleg bridge. Swoop grinned. "Great! Lets go back to camp. Hawk might need us for a patrol." I agreed, and we split up the fish to carry home, and I carried the crow, also. We padded silently back to camp, maybe becuase of the fish in our mouths that prevented us to get any words out, or the fact that there was nothing to be said. At last, we reached camp, placed our prey on the pile, and headed over to where Hawk had gathered a bunch of cats and was assigning patrols. "..Petal and Echo, you two go patrol the dead tree, watch for anything..Ah... Odd." They nodded and sped off. "Starry, Swoop, Wolf, and Wave, you four patrol the borders from the dead ferns to the dead tree." I nodded, glancing around for Wolf and Wave. They where padding over, nudging each other playfully and laughing. I smiled. Suddenly, a wave of shock, like a splash of cold water, came over me. The next second, it was gone. What? I had had this feeling before. They where my feelings, I think, yet they felt so....Inreal. Shuddering, I followed Swoop, trying to figure out what I, or whoevers feeling that was, meant. Maybe it was Raven. She must be having a bad dream or something. I glanced over to the den that she slept in. Unfourtenetlly, the den was to dark to see into. I had always known that me and Raven has shared a special connection since we where kits. I never felt that I had quit a connection with my other littermates. Well, sure, we where littermates and we had gotten along, mostly. But Raven and I... "Hey, slowpoke! Hurry up!" Wolf intuppreted my thoughts. As I hurried to catch up, I couldn't help but feeling like something bad had happened.
