"This wasn't what I expected, I give you that."
I smiled.
"What? The I'm dressing you part or the whole blindfolded part?"
"Both."
He smiled. I had taken him back to the castle and had a servant pick up our outfits for tonight. I didn't let him see anything and even wrapped a blindfold over his eyes to make sure. The only weird part was now I would have to dress him. I was already in my dress and everything. I had an idea to have us dress as angels. Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to dress up for parties. These rules, I got a list from the servant, said we could dress as anything as long as the matched each other and they were beautiful.
I was in a long high low dress with flared sleeves that was a blinding white. It had a v-neck that was lined with gold silk. A gold ribbon was knotted at my left side and fell down the dress and the gold heels laced up to my knees. Along with this was pearly white feathered wings that looked beautiful. I didn't wear any makeup or foundation at all.
I was standing and trying to figure out whether I should have him put his shirt on or not. I had him undress and pull on the pants but other than that he was still. He had refused to take his shirt off in front of me and had put it on before hand. I pulled on his black jacket that had a lace design on the fabric. I left it unbuttoned and stepped back to look at him.
"Not half bad... Now for the last thing,"
I pulled out the black feathered wings. The feathers on mine were like fluffy Swan feathers but his were slick shiny raven feathers. I walked around him and attached the light weight wings and looked at him. I fixed his hair by messing it up a bit and added some gel. "There. You look- well hot!"
He laughed and I took off the blindfold and he looked into the mirror stunned. He admired himself and shook his head in amazement. I laughed and walked up behind him and his eyes fixed on me. He spun around and looked at me up and down. His eyes slowly went from my head to toes and back up again. He eyed the wings and looked at his own. He smiled and laughed.
"I get the wings now. Rose, you look more enchanting than a real angel."
I smiled.
"It's just a costume. I'm not sure we will win though. I see a lot of people in matching costumes like us but no angels. I'm sorry if we don't win."
He smiled and held up a hand and reached into a drawer and pulled out a huge emerald pendant. The emerald itself the size of a baby's first and was cut to the shape of a heart. Around the heart was a row of small diamonds and it was on a white gold chain. I looked at him and had no words to say. He took the necklace and leaned in close. His face was right in front of mine as he clipped the necklace. The emerald rest right over my heart and James smiled before he took a step back.
"I thought you would need something extra to wear tonight. Do you like it?"
I looked at him and my eyes watered. I nodded and let out a laugh. A tear rolled down my face and he used his thumb to wipe it away. I smiled and blinked away my tears.
"It's beautiful! James you didn't have to-"
He smiled.
"No, but I wanted to. We should stand by the stairs and wait to be called down."
I nodded and waited for James to offer an arm but instead he looked down and slid his fingers in between mine and squeezed. My face flushed red and we walked out and stood by the steps. People were in everything from masquerade costumes to wedding dresses and suits. James looked down at the people and shook his head and laughed.
