Two days later the last of the poison had worked it's way out of Grim's body. The first thing he did was scrabble out of bed and to the bathroom where he wretched into the toilet. He felt for his side and thick scar covered the spot where the spear had cut him.
"Grim?" Katie said as the door opened.
"I'm telling you he's up. Considering I live in his hand I think I know what I'm talking about." Myst replied.
"I'm up." He said. He stood up and went into the main room. "That is easily the worst... How long was I out?"
"Two and half days."
"Worst two days of my life."
He wandered into the kitchen and looked for something to eat.
"Sorry I would have made something, but I didn't want to poison you a second time." Katie said.
"Thanks." He grabbed a breakfast bar and smoothie. He ate as he grabbed his coat and the bag he packed.
"What are you doing?"
"Leaving."
"You just woke up!" Katie said.
"Every second I waste is one more that Skyra has to get ready. We need to find the boss."
"Are you ready to fight another general?"
"With Sedrin's power I am." The binding circle now had a second ring of green marks around it. It flashed and scales crawled across his hand and forearm. He felt his arm then they didsapeared. "Time to go."
Myst dissolved away and Katie transformed. Grim left the sanctuary and took a deep breath as he stepped out of the church. Grim blurred down the streets looking for something to interigate. He smirked when he saw a demon strolling down the street with a cage. He blurred towards her only to dive away as she fired a shotgun at him.
"Now, now, don't you go getting any funny ideas. The warden wouldn't like it if his head of security disapeared. She wore a sheriff's hat and a brown duster. One one hip was a pistol and she cradled an automatic shotgun in one hand. The cage she carried was full of various creatures.
"Tell Fevarix I want to see Lord Death." The demon cackled.
"I'm not your messanger mortal, there will be plenty of time to see him once I capture you."
The cage door swung open and a pack of hell hounds burst out. They ran at Grim and he sliced them into pieces.
"That all you got."
"You'll pay for hurting my babies human!"
"Yeah, yeah." His chains flew out and he grabbed both of her wrists. He lifted her in the air and aimed the other three at the cage. "Tell me where he is now, or the rest of your pets get it. If Sedrin fell to me, how long do you think a lesser demon like you will last." The chains tightened around her arms and inched closer to the cage.
"Alright, he's under the Queen Apartment Complex. Please don't hurt my babies." Grim dropped her and the cage and walked away.
"Hiding him right under our noses." Katie said.
"Let's go." Grim blurred and slammed right through the glass doors of the building. He forced open the elevator doors in the lobby and jumped down. The concrete basement was covered in webs. "Shit, I knew one of them was going to be a giant spider."
"I hate spiders." Katie groaned.
"Me to." Grim replied.
"I'll agree with you there, demon spiders are creepy as hell." Myst said.
Grim cut away the web covering the tunnel dug into the floor. He followed it down and into a cavern. All around him there were hundreds of egg sacs.
"Step carefully, one of these pops and you'll drown in baby spiders." Myst warned.
"Gotcha." He carefully walked through the silky cocoons. The next room had a group of spiders crawling around. There were the size of horses with spikes around their bodies. Grim used his chains but when they got close the spiders leapt away. He kept trying to spear them but they danced just out of reach. They rushed him and he could barely dodged.
"Fuck, they can blur." He cut one open but a second tackled him. He turned his arm to scales as it tried to bite him. He speared it with the chains and flung it away. The next one he stabbed out of the air with the spear point on the scythe. He blurred and chased the last one down. Slicing it's abdomen in half, it skid into the next room and scrabbled away. When he followed it he back pedaled and froze.
Sitting in the center was the spider's mother. She was as big as elephant with a bloated abandon and thick trunk legs. Her six eyes focused on him.
"How dare you do this." She pulled the wounded spider towards her with one leg. "A strong, fine warrior ruined by some pathetic human who doesn't know his place."
She fired web at him and glued his foot down. He tried to pull himself free but it had hardened like concrete. She rolled into a ball. The spikes on her body ripped the floor apart as she roared towards him. He tried to break free but not ever Katie could cut through the web.
"Fuck." Grim moaned as she slammed into him. He was crushed under her and felt the spike stab into him. He coughed up blood and felt his collapsed lung heal. The flood of power from Sedrin and Myst healed his injuries almost immediately. He got to one knee and he was sprayed with web again. He was encased and couldn't move. The Broodmother circled around and wheeled towards him again. He turned the skin on his back to scales. She hit him like a ramp and flew at the wall. She unfolded and stuck to the wall. She fired more webs but this time Grim rolled out of the way. He blurred up the wall and slashed at her.
She screamed as he split the armor on her abdomen. Flipping past her he managed to stab at her face and spear her eye. She dropped down on top of him and stabbed him with one leg. It ripped through him and came out the other side. She lifted him up and impaled his chest with another leg. Myst took control of the chains and took out her other five eyes. The Broodmother flicked Grim off her legs and into a wall.
"Grim get up, she's coming." Katie yelled. Grim threw up blood and tried to climb to his feet. He blurred and tripped out of the way of the Broodmother.
"I can smell your blood Mortal. You can't escape me."
She charged him like a bull and Grim jumped onto her back. One of the spikes stabbed him in the side as he landed. He turned his hand into scales and five black claws formed over his fingers. He ripped the cracked exoskeleton from her head and shoved his hand into her head. He dug in up to her elbow and she tumbled out of control. He ripped hid arm out and flipped off as she blew through a wall.
He stepped into the new room and it was made of the same concrete webs. He wandered around and felt the glass floor shake. It was shattered and Grim anchored himself to the wall. The stone frame of the floor was in place but underneath was a massive web.
"Welcome to your tomb."
