"Grim wake up." Myst said in his head.
"Can't a guy ever get some sleep." He said climbing out of bed. He walked into the living room which filled with potions and powders.
"I have gathered all the materials nessacary to safely bond Fevarix to you and ensure he won't escape."
"Already got that handled boss." He raised his hand a little and dissapeared into the kitchen. He came back out with a granola bar and a pop. "Myst get your ass out here." She formed next to him. "I made a deal. Myst here keeps the generals in check and I'd convince you to allow her a chance at redemption."
"A remorseful demon, your kind are few and far between. Let's see how she does. Here are your new fingers."
He handed Grim four replacement fingers made from the black fangs. Grim clutched them in his hand and dived into the binding circle. Myst was already waiting. Behind her was an enourmous column of energy.
"What's this?" Grim asked.
"The power link from me to you." Myst replied.
Fevarix slowly formed by Sedrin and was impaled by chains. Both Myst and Grim were rocked by the power as the column behind them pulsed.
"Impressive, even with this much power at her disposal she stays loyal." Death said.
"How are you in here? If I understand everything Myst has told me this is just a representation of my soul."
"I am Lord of the Underworld, need I say more."
"Good point."
He faded back to the real world and felt a pinch. The skin around his hand split and connected to the base of his new fingers. His middle finger looked out of place next to the black claws. He flexed his hand and each individual finger, the joints of the fingers were hinged and had full range of motion.
"Very well, when this is over I will give the demon a chance." Death said. "Before you become a Reaper there is something we must discuss. You may need to take on a new partner."
"What?"
"Reapers are bound for eternity, destined to fight for centuries. Do you believe Katie wants that life?
"No, I don't. She wants to help me but not forever."
"Then save this." He gave Grim a knife. "Every Reaper weapon is forged with one of these blades. They can sever the threads that demons use to bind themselves to humans."
"I understand." He sheathed it in his boot.
"The other two things that make Reapers so powerful is their unlimited access to the Death Gate and Judgement. I can give you one but the other must wait till you have a partner. Hold still."
Death's hand darted out and he pressed something into Grim's eye. He stifled his screams as it burned and fused to his eye. He stumbled over to the bar and looked into the mirror. His left eye was completely black except for the green iris.
"The Judgement allows you to see people souls and interact with them."
Grim looked at his own hand and saw the black fire his body formed when he activated the Death Gate. He blinked and shook his head till his vision returned to normal.
"I'm coming to save you." Grim whispered to himself. "I have to go boss."
"Wait for me." Katie said as she left one of the other bedrooms. She transformed and Grim opened the door.
"Grim, remember what I said." He said. Grim continued out the door and exited the church. He grabbed his phone and sent a text.
"What's the plan Grim?"
