~☾︎ A Guarded Tooru ☽︎~

Oikawa Tooru. The infamous pretty boy. Girls fall at his feet and boys admire him. All except for Iwaizumi and you. He's your boyfriend but for your entirety of knowing him, you've been able to call out all his bullshit. You weren't mean or harsh, just down-to-earth and straightforward.

That's what made Tooru fall for you. You accepted his love, but on a condition. That he's only his true self when he's with you. He took a couple of days to ponder over the condition after confessing to you. Iwaizumi convinced him that it'd be a good opportunity though.

So here you are now, in the boy's volleyball gym watching them practice. Just like any other day, Tooru is practicing his best and hardest in hopes of impressing you. After watching his first practice last year-convinced by one of your Oikawa-fangirl friends-you could tell that he was always putting up some sort of front for other people.

After observing him for some time, you had confronted him about his personality. But you were only a measly classmate whom he had never met before. He, at first, ignored your observations but that didn't mean you were going to stop.

"Oikawa-kun," you called a few feet from behind the said male.  He turned to you, expecting it to be one of his random, countless fangirls.  He didn't expect to see the mysterious girl who, only after a short while, figured out that he was putting up a persona.  There in turn he was surprised.

"It's you again," he replied warily.  In all honesty, he feared you.  He feared what you would be able to discover if he let down his guard for even a second.  "I'm sorry that I never introduced myself.  I'm L/N Y/N," you said, sticking your hand out for him to shake.  "It's nice to finally know the name of the girl who can see under my suit of armor," he replied sarcastically with a fake closed-eye smile.  He did shake your hand though.

"I didn't know you were afraid of me, Oikawa," you said with your own fake smile.  Bringing your arm to rest comfortably against your chest intertwining with your other arm, Tooru had taken on another surprised expression.  Then he laughed and you stood there waiting for him to finish.  You read him like a book again, plain and simple.  You happened to be following Oikawa because classes were done for the day and he was on his way to get changed for volleyball practice.  And you were headed to the same gym to watch him and his team.

He finally stopped laughing and stands up straight again.  "You're quite the dangerous one, aren't you L/N-chan," he states with a slight smirk.  "And so what if I am?" you reply with your own smirk.  Oikawa was trying to read you but you had given away nothing as you could so simply figure him out in an instant.  "I'll be at your practice.  We can talk after if you want," you informed, walking past him to the boy's volleyball club gym.

Tooru had stood there helpless that afternoon.  He didn't know what to expect from you next.  You were inhuman, with such a simple ability that had the strength to do wonders.  Oikawa knew in that instant that you and him were going to be hanging out a lot more.

End flashback~

You were currently waiting for him outside of the gym.  He went to go get changed with the rest of his team and offered to walk you home once again.  Things in your relationship had sailed smoothly so far and you were happy to say in the least.  Once you had enforced your condition upon Tooru, he didn't fail to impress you by actually being himself

You'd been dating for 3 months now.  Tooru found it hard at first to comply with something-he thought anyway-was so pointless.  He didn't argue with you about it though because you told Hajime about Tooru's resistance.  And Hajime straightened out Tooru for you.

From what Tooru could tell, you weren't one to be forceful, mean, controlling, or demanding.  Tooru liked that about you, therefore accepting your condition like bad-tasting medicine when you're sick.  It also gave him room to experiment with how much "boyfriendness" he could get away with.

It only started with him holding your hand in the hall, him giving you hugs, kisses on the cheek, and so on.  You really liked that he was touchy-feely with you, because he was himself.  He had no shame when it came down to public displays of affection.  He wanted people to know that you were his, and only his.

Several minutes later Tooru had finally made his way out of the club room and trotted up to you, immediately sticking his hand out for you to hold.  You took it into yours with gratitude.  The walk home was quiet except for the sound of Tooru's and your footsteps.

"You did a good job in practice today," you compliment.  He looks down at you with a smile.  "Thanks," he says grinning.  The comfortable blanket of silence falls onto the both of you again.  Suddenly an idea popped into Oikawa's head.  "Hey Y/N, do you want to go on a date with me this weekend?" he asks you.  You look at him slightly surprised.

"Yeah, I'd like that," you say with a genuine smile.  "Okay great!" he exclaims.  "Do you have an idea in mind?" you question.  "Yeah, but it's a secret," he says winking and putting a finger from his free hand to his mouth.  You huff in annoyance.  The one thing you didn't like was Tooru's surprises or secrets.  It was a part of him that never failed to annoy you.

"You know I hate secrets Tooru," you huff with your cheeks puffed out.  "Don't worry, it won't be horrible.  Have my surprises ever been horrible?" he asks rhetorically.  "N-no," you pout.  He smiles in success.  "We're here," he announces and you look up to see your house.  Once getting to your front gate he spins you towards his front.

"I promise that you'll enjoy your Saturday," he says, trying to sooth over your fiery annoyance.  You only let out a 'huff' in response and he gives you a quick kiss on the lips.  He pulls away but not before you drag him back in for a longer, more heated kiss.  You bite his bottom lip gently.  "It'd better be good," you mumble pulling away.

He stares at you in astonishment.  "Oh don't worry little one.  It'll be better than good," he purrs into your ear, embracing you in a hug.  It gives you shivers down your spine before you turn around, opening the yard gate, and walking to your front door.  You turn your head one last time and give him a light wave.  He smirks and waves back before walking off.  He couldn't wait for Saturday.
