Nicolai took the rag off that was gagging me. He kept the other ropes in place not caring how sore my wrists were. For a few moments we just stared at each other, Nicolai-deciding if I was good enough, me-deciding if I could trust him.

"What's your name?" He finally spoke. His voice was calm and interested. Not at all like he sounded when I had my first encounter with him.

"Quinn." I answer. I watch him raise his eyebrows, thinking about my name.

"Quinn?" He tilts his head, considering it, "Good name."

I let out a heavy breath, "Come on man, untie me. Start explaining all this shit, and where the hell Foster and Claud are."

Nicolai smirks at me. Then begins to walk towards the door.

"Nicolai! I swear to God! Let me go!"

He jerks around as my words were said, and before I know it he's crouching over my pinned body on the mattress. He has one hand gripping the back of my neck and making me cringe. Sharp points eject from each tooth and claws grow from his fingertips. All his features sharpen and he looks half man and half beast.

I try to shrink back into the mattress, but his grip on my neck doesn't allow it.

"You are not in charge of me! You have no authority or power or even any strength to us against me. You are a mouse and I am a giant. I eat your kind for a midnight snack." His eyes seemed to enlarge with every word. What had been a lean body, turned to a body trained to kill. Every inch of him was muscle. He scared me to death.

"I didn't mean..." I was breathless. This couldn't really be happening.

Nicolai slammed his other fist on the wall above my head, "You are nothing! I deserve a better Bloodrem than you!" His grip tightened for a moment than loosened immediately. He let his body fall to the side and sat on the mattress beside me.

I was to afraid to talk. Even as he was calming down and his looks starting to look more human, he was completely terrifying. They had said I was to be one of them. That's what I kept hearing. I'm Nicolai's Bloodrem. That must be something important and not usually human.

What am I saying? Not usually human? What else is out there?

Nicolai's body was hunched over, his head in his hands. "Nicolai? Please, I'm obviously not a danger if you think I'm worthless. Untie me...please." I spoke as quietly and innocently as a 19 year could speak.

He looked up at me, again with that calculating look. He moved slowly and cautiously, but eventually my arms and legs were no longer constrained. He let the ropes fall to the ground beside the mattress.

"I'm sorry. Maybe one day you'll forgive me for what I've done today...and for yesterday."

His words confused me. He wanted me to forgive him?"What?"

"Your friends-Foster and...Claud you say? They are dead." He said it like a bad actor. I could tell he wasn't actually hoping for my forgiveness but hoping maybe that I'd kill myself.

"You killed them." I couldn't believe it. These animals took me hostage, want me to become one of them, and killed my two closest friends. What kind of heartless bastards are these things!

I threw myself at him. My fist connected with his face but he had me pinned underneath him in a matter of seconds. My body was thrashing and I was screaming curse words at whoever cared to listen.

When I finally calmed down, Nicolai had me sitting up right against the wall. He was sitting across from me with a bruise on his cheek. I felt proud for a matter of 10 seconds before the anger hit again. "What the hell are you people?" I was defeated for now. There wasn't anything I could do.
