"So it was definitely about the girl, then!" says Tangler. "I'll find out, I'll get it out of Chet. The boys tell each other everything. He definitely wanted to tell you something nice and sweet and cheesy and then he thought about her, realized Kristina Kelly might have hurt her, and now he feels bad about it!"
"Not that he's still hung up on her," Needler interjects, "But he'd feel guilty getting mushy with you while she's in the hospital recovering!"
"Jury says what:" asks Shiv, "Did Kristina Kelly do anything? Do we really think this girl's beat up so bad she's in the hospital, or is Kristina Kelly just talking out of her ass?"
Needler, Tangler, and Vapor don't think so. But Ripper hopes Steak's ex is dead."Kristina Kelly doesn't want to be in here forever," I remind them. "She just wanted to be reunited with Steak for the rest of his sentence..."
The conversation changes as Vapor takes over, fantasizing about what she'll do with all her free time once she's finally finished with her sentence. She's due for release any day now, but I can't listen. I can't stop thinking about Steak.
The boys tell each other everything, said Tangler. But in his first letter to me, Steak had said he really wasn't close to his roommate... Was he ever close to Kristina Kelly? If it wasn't Chet, or me, or her, who did he confide in? Had he spent the first part of his sentence pining for his ex girlfriend, on the outside? Did he miss her still? Had he missed Kristina Kelly – and was he conflicted about those feelings now?
