The Soul Guardian

WHAT?! Another one shot?! YES! SURPRISE! HAPPY LATE GROUNDHOG DAY

I thought of this as I was washing my hair today lolololol enjoy your Groundhog Day gift.

"She's so beautiful, Nick!" Maya said as she looked down at her newborn daughter in her arms. Phoenix stroked Maya's hair. "Yeah. Just as beautiful as her mother." He kissed the back of her head. Maya smiled up at him. "She definitely has your beautiful blue-gray eyes, though." The two laid on Maya's bed smiling at their little sleeping angel while Trucy, Pearl, and Edgeworth surrounded them.

"My new baby sister is so beautiful." Trucy said staring at her. Pearl couldn't stop crying. "I'm just so happy for Mr. Nick and Mystic Maya. All of my fairytale dreams have come true." She whimpered. She wiped some stray tears on her sleeve. I'm impressed Wright." Edgeworth said patting his shoulder. "Nice work." Phoenix blushed. "Uh, thanks Edgeworth..." he said.

The nurse walked in with a clipboard. "Alright, what are we going to name this beautiful baby girl?" she asked cheerfully. "Miranda Wright." Phoenix said with confidence. Maya slapped him. "NICK!" she cried. She gave the nurse a sympathetic look. "I am so sorry. I told him not to say that." "That's alright." The nurse said, trying to mask her impatience with an overly happy attitude. "Her name is Mia Katherine Fey." Maya said. The nurse quickly wrote down the information on her clipboard.

"Thank you! I've got that recorded. It's time to feed Mia, so would everyone who isn't the mom and dad please leave the room? I'll be back with some feeding supplies, and I'll teach you how to breastfeed her." Trucy wrapped an arm around her now adopted sister's shoulder. "Come on, Pearly. Let's go get some popsicles from the vending machine." Trucy guided out a crying Pearl Fey from the room.

Edgeworth was about to walk out right behind them, when Phoenix grabbed his attention. "Hold on a second, Edgeworth." Edgeworth backed up and looked at Phoenix. "What is it?" he asked. Phoenix and Maya looked at each other and smiled. "Well, Maya and I were talking and...well...uh..." Phoenix became flustered. He wasn't really sure how his best friend would react. Maya finished his sentence. "Edgeworth, will you be our baby's Soul Guardian?"
Edgeworth's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Soul Guardian? What's that?" "Well, in the Khura'in tradition, every family member in the master's family has someone that promises to watch over them and act as their spiritual mentor. It's like a godfather in other traditions. It's usually a woman who is a Soul Guardian, but we wanted you to be Mia's instead." Maya explained. She smiled down at Mia. "If anything ever happens to Phoenix or me, we want you to take care of her." "You've been more of a brother to us than a peer, and we know that you would do everything in you power to keep her safe." Phoenix added. Maya sighed, "So, will you be Mia's Soul Guardian, Miles?"

Edgeworth was at a loss for words. He felt a lump in his throat. He just couldn't believe that Phoenix and Maya wanted him, their rival, as a part of their family. "Yes...I accept." He said his voice cracking. Phoenix smiled, "Oh, wonderful." He said. Maya smiled, "Do you want to hold your Soul Daughter?" she said.

Edgeworth shyly nodded and walked slowly over to Maya. She transferred Mia into Edgeworth's strong but delicate arms. Edgeworth looked down at her, speechless. Quiet tears started to stream down his face as he stared at her little features. She was perfect in his eyes. "Ever since I discovered I was sterile, I thought that I would never be able to hold a child in my arms...yet here I am. Thank you." He said quietly.

Now it was Maya and Phoenix's turns to start crying. "We love you a lot Edgeworth." Maya said. Edgeworth sniffed. "I...love you all too."
