Over the next week, Maya would go out to the field to see if Phoenix would return, she was overjoyed to always find him in the same spot at the same time. It seemed as if he had the same idea as she did.
The two spent time laughing and talking about everything. Maya had grown very fond of the prince. He was kind, funny, sassy, not to mention super handsome. She had asked him one night what the story was with Lady Dahlia, and Phoenix explained how he was manipulated into loving her in order to save the kingdom. Maya was so happy to hear that.
Maya always daydreamed about Phoenix. She yearned for his strong touch on her body, and she dreamed about her lips on his soft ones. She even sometimes told Pearl about her fantasies of what it would be like if she were his princess. She just couldn't help it. She was just hopelessly in love with him.
Phoenix, meanwhile, felt the exact same about her. He longed to hold her and to protect her. He longed to kiss her soft lips and feel her skin on his, but he couldn't. She wasn't royalty.
A few days before is 30th birthday, he called Edgeworth into his room. "Yes, Phoenix? You called for me?" he said bowing. "Edgeworth, I value your opinion, greatly. I do not see you as my servant but as my best friend." Edgeworth grinned. "Thank you."
Phoenix smiled. "So, I need your help. One evening last week, I met the world's most beautiful woman." Phoenix's eyes started sparkling. Edgeworth smirked. "You did?" he asked. "Oh, Edgeworth she's just perfect. Her eyes, her smile, her hair...everything!"
"Then, I trust you have found your wife?" Edgeworth concluded. Phoenix's smile disappeared. "Yes, but...she's a peasant girl. Aren't I supposed to marry someone of good socioeconomic standing?" Edgeworth thought for a moment. "Well, the law says that you need to be married by your 30th birthday." He smirked. "It doesn't say anything about socioeconomic status."
Phoenix beamed. "Oh yes!" he exclaimed. He jumped up and down. Edgeworth chuckled. "By the way, sire, if you ever need anyone to defend you on this, I am your man. Think of me as your lawyer."
Phoenix smiled. "You're the best."

Maya woke up the next morning to pounding. No, not in her head, but to pounding on the wooden door. She rubbed the grogginess from her eyes and turned to see that Pearl was still asleep. She got up slowly out of her bed and walked over to the door.
She opened to find two gentlemen dressed in blue and red saluting her. "Miss Maya Fey? We are here to bring you to the castle. The prince requests your presence." Maya was speechless. "He...does?" she squeaked out.
The royal guard nodded. "Yes. He said to bring your little cousin as well." Maya hesitated. "Well...all right. Please come in while I get ready." The guards nodded and stepped into her small house. She expected them to make a comment about her living conditions, but they were too busy watching her wake up Pearl.
"Pearly? Wake up!" she said, shaking her back gently. Pearl rolled over and let out a sharp exhale. "Morning Mystic Maya." She said. She looked behind her to see the two guards. "W-Who are they?" she inquired.
"That's not important now, Pearly. Come! Get dressed! We are going on an adventure." Pearl's face lit up. "Oh okay!" she said happily, not really understanding the situation. Pearl grabbed her dress from the end of the bed and ran into the bathroom.
She came out to see Maya making small talk with the guards. She grabbed her shawl and put it over her and grabbed her doll from the bed. "I'm ready, Mystic Maya." She said. "Let's be off then. We shouldn't keep his royal highness waiting." The guard said. Maya smiled and took Pearl's hand.
