Sorry if this fic has grammatical errors and stuff. It was my parents' anniversary today (Happy 29 years to them!) and I'm still a little bit tipsy. Oof ;)

"Got everything?" Phoenix said turning to his wife. "Yup. Let's go to that trial." Maya said confidently. The two had an important trial to attend. His older brother had been murdered, and the governor was at the wrong place at the wrong time. This was a definite high-profile case that Phoenix just had to win.

Phoenix turned to his best friend. "Thank you so much for coming and babysitting for us. We really appreciate you looking after Mia and Justin." Edgeworth nodded. "After all you've done for me, it is my pleasure." He said, a little smile forming on his face. Inwardly, however, Edgeworth was terrified. He was terrible with kids. What if something went wrong or they didn't like him?

Maya gave him a piece of paper. "Okay. Here's a list of emergency numbers. Trucy's college is only 20 minutes away, and Pearl's back in the Kurain Village so call them if anything happens. You can try to reach Apollo, but he's currently on his honeymoon. Athena will be with us at the trial."

"What's this bottom number?" Edgeworth asked. The bottom of the list had a mysterious number that wasn't labeled. "Oh...that...well...that number is the...last resort." Maya said awkwardly rubbing her arm. "What do you mean?" Edgeworth asked. He pushed his glasses up his nose.

"Oh gosh! We gotta go. Listen, don't worry, you'll do fine." Phoenix said. "Mia! Justin! Come give your mommy and daddy a kiss goodbye!" he called out. The 4 year old girl and her 2 year old brother came running into the room.

"Bye Mommy! Bye Daddy!" Mia said. Phoenix picked her up and gave her a hug. He passed her over to his wife. They did the same with little Justin. "Be good for Uncle Miles, okay?" Maya said, and the two walked out the door.

Mia grabbed Justin's hand and ran up to the window to wave goodbye to their mom and dad. The two were used to their parents going out and leaving them with a babysitter, so they never really cried. Mia turned to Edgeworth who was awkwardly standing there in the foyer staring down at them.

"So..." he said, unsure of what to do next. "Uncle Miles, will you play Pretty Princess in the Tower with me?" Mia asked. Her idle hands lifting her shirt up and down. Edgeworth frowned. "No." He said plainly. That was the last thing he wanted to do. He walked toward the living room and sat down at the couch, with Mia and Justin at his heels.

He took out his book from his satchel and started to read. He thought that once he started to read, the little ones would go off and play or something. Isn't that what kids did? Well, he was wrong.

"What's that book, Uncle Miles?" Mia asked, poking the hard cover of his book. He looked at her. "It's a book on moral relativism. A man named Plato wrote it."

"Ooooh! I love Play-Doh! I like to play with the play-doh, but Justin can't play with me because he eats it." Mia explained, her blue-gray eyes sparkling. Justin giggled, pretending to know what she was talking about.

"I...see." Edgeworth said. He studied her for a moment. He saw Phoenix's eyes look back at him, but she definitely had Maya's thick hair. She wore a barrette with a magatama on it, as a nod to her mother's career.

He then looked over at Justin who was jumping up and down in the far side of the room and saying something like "Uppyuppyuppy!" He sported his mom's dark grey eyes, but his hair was beginning to stick out like his father's, which Edgeworth realized wasn't hair gel that Phoenix used like he thought, and that it was indeed genetic.

"Does your book have a unicorn in it?" Mia asked again. She really wanted to get to know "Uncle Miles" more. She's only remembered meeting him twice in her life. "It does not." He replied, getting a little annoyed that she was asking him all these questions. He resumed reading. The silence only lasted about 3 seconds.
