Pookie enjoys many games. The sand worm has observed the kits and pups play chase, tag, hide and seek, and practice fighting. While sand worms are generally not curious creatures, Pookie is well fed and bored. It is obvious that the worm would want to try playing the games too.

By this point in time, they weyr has developed enough of a connection to form a mental bond with the worm. Words are not transmitted, but images and emotions are, so the weyr can usually figure out what the worm is trying to convey. And mainly Pookie was asking to play!

The adults of the weyr tried to come up with some way for Pookie to play with their young. After a lot of debate...they decided to use Lady in a game of catch. Surely Lady would not mind, right? Of course they did not bother to ask...

Lady was put into time out on Grandma Rock just before this was decided. Cena was keeping a close eye on her, but the little terror seemed perfectly content to chew on a bone that another kit had left on the rock earlier. Silver approached Lady and scooped her up.

The little opal was too big to really fit in her mother's mouth, so Silver carried her daughter up into the air by her tail. Lady dropped her bone and shrilly scolded her mother. Her ear-piercing chirps went ignored as Silver flew away.

Up, up, and up the two of them went. Kross and Glay watched from the safety of a big sand dune while Bean began explaining the game to Pookie. Well...she tried to-mainly the sand worm just got confused. Nevertheless, Pookie carefully positioned itself right under Silver and Lady to wait.

Silver stopped flying higher and hovered. Lady was just starting to squirm. Bean called up to Silver so the dragoness knew Pookie was ready. Silver glanced down...and dropped Lady.

Instinctively Lady began to furiously beat her too-small wings. This slowed her enough to ensure a relatively safe landing, but she was nearly nowhere old enough to be able to fly. One might expect Lady to react with terror unease, but her expression was actually one of joy. Near the sands, she accidentally flipped herself awkwardly.

With a muffled plunk, she landed head first in the sands. At the same time, Pookie burst upward and snapped at the air just above. Little Lady struggled free of the sands, not at all aware of what had just nearly happened.

Again! Again!

She squealed excitedly at the adults. None of them moved to pick her up,however...The watching adults were secretly glad Pookie missed; it would be a pain to chase down Lady after she hatched if she died again...
