Endless Road- A Friend's Journey: Random Thoughts

When I was drafting Edward's character my first doubt was is there someone in this world who is as perfect and selflessly loving as he is...... 

Then I remembered a story of a friendship who touches my heart and soul in so many ways. A tall and handsome guy with a very humble and quiet persona meets a simple, slightly akward girl. It was a friendship which lasted sixteen years and still counting. 

Lets go back in the year 1995, they were classmates in 7th grade at a Co-Ed exclusive school in the city of Makati. 

He was a tall, cute guy with a wonderful eyes and a warm smile. She was the akward girl who was lacking in height and  with her glasses and braces on. She was bullied by the in crowd, he was the one of the in crowd who took pity on her and defended her to his friends. It was then the friendship developed from that day on the guy and the girl was inseparable.

As the years go by, both of their parents become good friends too..... A friendship full of wonderful moments and unyielding support was developed.

I remembered the day when both of you were caught by your teacher teasing each other during class hours. Who would forget when you carried the girl in your arms "Kasi she is too clumsy and slipped through her feet and got wounded in the knees." How can I forget the angry stares of your girlfriends when you will buy her, her favorite "Henlin Siomia" at the LRT canteen in your campus. The endless laughters when both of you were goofing around during and after class hours. 

The endless chit chats in her house when you used to asked her mom to cook you the crispy shrimp you so much love. 

It was indeed a wonderful friendship full of love and respect for each other. Until graduation came and you had to travel seperate lives but the friendship remained. A deeper love for each other was formed when you both experienced the life in the real world.

The shared pains of love was your constant topic during your phone conversations, an endless no you should have done this and that.... was the constant words in your mouths but at the end of each worthy conversation was a heartfelt "I wish we will find our true happiness in the future." 

I remembered the day when she met with you and she was so broken and pained. How can I forget the tear you shed because you saw her pain. How would I forget the hurt she inflicted in your eyes because she let herself be broken like that. How can I forget the words you've first told her when you saw her broken.

"I am just here. I won't let anyone hurt you again and I won'l let you hurt yourself like that ever again." 

How can I forget those words......

Years gone by you flew to a country far away from her but the friendship stayed, intact as always. A few heartbreaks from the both of you but the friendship remained steadfast until you asked your mom to call her and tell her that you will be asking your girlfriend for marriage.....

She will never forget that day and when she told your mother that she is very happy for you.... She will will never forget the sigh of relief your mother let out.....

Then she called you laughing, asking you why you did not tell her yourself. You told her you were nervous of her reaction and she'd laughed at you but a tear fell down from her face......

Why..... "I dont know?"

After a few months you told her that you postponed the wedding not telling her the reason why. Then you went home to your home country and met with her and your other friends.....

The three little words your friends are expecting you both to utter never came out from your mouths....

Why?...... I don't know.....

Another month had past. Your guy bestfriend called her telling her that the wedding is pushing through......

Until that night that you told her, yourself.... and your last words where

"Find your true happiness, for me..." Between sobs and tears the only words from her mouth was

"I will, and thank you." 

Edward's character might be a figment of my vast imagination but in my heart he is someone who will remain special....
