Chapter 21: Mission Failed?

~Ronin's POV~

"The fuck is going on Zane? What's up with Skylor??"

"Maybe if you would sit down and shut your mouth, I could explain."

It's the next mornin' already, Zane and Skylor coming back from their mission seemed to left them bamboozled. Neither of them said a word when they walked back into this penthouse. Yet again, another bright fucking early morning at this god damn dinner table to discuss. I sighed, taking a seat next to Dareth and began tapping my fingers on the table. I looked over at Skylor at the side of the table, her face has a weird look. She seemed depressed but empty at the same time, which isn't a face you'd see from someone like Sky.

Eventually everyone, well almost everyone, was sitting at the table. Jay, Cole, Skylor, Zane, Pixal, Lloyd, dareth and I. "Hey! Where's Nya?" The short freckled boy yelled out quickly as soon as he took his spot next to Cole. I turned my head to them, watching Cole look around too, "Kai isn't here too?" He questioned.

Lloyd cleared his throat, making us all instantly turn our vision towards him as he stood up, "I'm sure Kai and Nya are fine. Wherever the hell they went clearly isn't my business." He spat with attitude clear as day. A part of me wanted to mess with him but I decided to let him be a leader for once, not like anyone would believe Lloyd if he said he's being a good leader. "May I speak now?" A robotic voice interrupted so we all nodded and watched him stood up as well, walking over to stand next to Lloyd and gave him a look before continuing on. "Skylor and I have...news from our last mission but I'm afraid good news isn't the only thing we have obtained."

Suddenly a file was slipped out and held up for everyone to see, "There's no easy way to say this but..." and after what seemed like an eternity of quiet, everyone on the very edge of their seat waiting for Zane to continue on with his news. "I'm sorry, our own boss cannot be trusted." were the words that came from his mouth which instantly made me raise a brow. I mean who would trust a sleazy criminal? It makes sense and because it makes sense I raised my hand a bit and chuckled, "No shit, Sherlock. What's so special about that? I get you're not too into this business but-"

"But I recommended you to let me finish talking instead of being engulfed within your thoughts to flame me."

I was taken aback a bit by Zane's sudden bite back. I couldn't really say anything to that so I just put my hand down, mumbling as Zane continued without waiting for anyone. He looked around at us slowly with his eyes, "Anonymous has spoken to us and given this file. It is a file filled with members of his late mafia gang. Along with this file came a story about our boss." and before Zane could even finish Lloyd swiped the file away, "What? What the hell? Late mafia gang?? Did you guys really buy that bullshit?"

I turned my eyes back to Zane who gave him a displeased look and frankly I can tell this is about to get good. Zane cleared his throat once again.

"Lloyd, you're our leader. Please act like it."

"I am acting like it! I'm telling you that Boss has never had a gang before us, whatever that anonymous guy told you was straight up bullshit."

"I can assure you it's not if you let me finish, Lloyd."

"I work with Boss, I know...almost everything about Boss and I know for a fact that another gang did not exist before us!"

As the two argued Skylor came over and tapped me on the shoulder, "You're an asshole, get Lloyd to shut the fuck up and listen." She whispered into my ear and I scoffed. "I'm not a fucking babysitter. You guys are supposed to listen to Lloyd anyways, you guys don't do a very good job at that." And I looked up at her with a sly smirk on my face and she returned a much more sadder look which made my face fall. She sighed as she held her arm, "Ronin, please. What Zane has to say is scary and it's important if everyone knows." Skylor whispered while she pointed her finger to Cole, Jay, Pixal, Dareth, then the stubborn Lloyd.
