Viktor drove us to Lucas' house, and stopped me just as we were about to knock on the door.
"Don't worry," he whispered, "I won't let anything bad happen to you. I'm sure you'll get the job done, but promise me you'll let me know if you're not okay. I hate this guy, so I'll have no problem sorting him out."
"I promise." I replied, then proceeding to knock on the front door, which Lucas answered.
"Hello, Robyn! Come on in, it's been a while since we've seen eachother." We both entered the house, and were shown directly to the dining room.
"You came in perfect time, dinner is just ready! Let me take your coats, first though." He then put out his arm to take our coats. "Should I take your bag too?" Lucas then asked, pointing to my little bag.
"Oh, no it's fine, it's got my phone in. I'll keep it by my side."
"Really? Okay, if you say so." He said, putting our coats on the rack. "Please, sit down and I'll bring out the food."The entire meal time consisted of Viktor getting gradually more and more annoyed at Lucas' presence. I could tell that Viktor wanted to fight him, but restrained himself in the hope of our secret mission succeeding.
"Well, that was very nice," I said as I finished the last bit of my meal. "Thank you, Lucas."
"You're very welcome, both of you," Lucas replied, looking at Viktor who didn't say a word. "We can go into the lounge for a drink if you'd like?"
I saw this as the perfect opportunity to go to the 'toilet' and get Viktor to distract Lucas in the kitchen.
"Yeah, I'm just going to go to the toilet first. I think some of my mascara has gone into my eyes, I'd better go and take a look." I stated convincingly, grabbing my bag and making my way towards the stairs.
"Okay, I'll make you a drink!" Lucas replied.
"Thank you!" I shouted down the stairs, as I closed the bathroom door loudly for effect, and made my way into Lucas' room.I had never been inside the room before, so I had no idea where to look for anything, let alone some incriminating evidence...
I started in the bookshelf, sifting through the sides hoping to find a document concealed somewhere. Nothing.
Then, I checked under his computer and in his desk. Still nothing.
I even checked under his sofa-bed.
Nope.
I began to panic, as I knew Viktor could only stall Lucas for so long... Turns out it's pretty difficult to predict where a likely criminal keeps his work.Giving up, I decided to sit down on the office chair and plan my next move. Should I tell Viktor? Should I confront Lucas? What would happen if I just a-
PING!
As I put my weight onto the chair, it collapsed, and every piece of it scattered across the room. I fell with a loud thud on the ground, which was sure to alert Lucas downstairs...
I quickly picked myself off the ground, and tried desperately to put the pieces of the chair back together. But this was all in vain, as Lucas came bursting into the room with Viktor behind him."What's all this about?!" He thundered, scowling at me.
"I'm sorry, I- I just... I didn't want t-" This time, I had no back-up plan.
"Why are you in here, you stupid girl? Look what you've done!"
"Just leave her alone!" Viktor shouted, picking up some pieces of the chair. "There's no need t-"
Just as Viktor picked up one of the black pieces, a brown cylinder slipped out and dropped onto the floor.
"What the hell is that?" Viktor remarked, bending over and picking it up.
"Excuse me, you think you can come into my house and nose around? Give me that!" Lucas snapped, trying to snatch the cylinder from Viktor, but Viktor wasn't letting go.
"No way, I'm going to find out what kind of shady business is going on here, old man." He then opened the cylinder, and found an old piece of paper. He unfolded it, and then looked very confused as he read what was on it.
"What's wrong, Viktor?" I asked.
"I'm... I'm not so sure I should be the one telling you." He answered, handing the piece of paper back to Lucas, who looked as if his whole world was falling apart. "I think Lucas has a lot to explain."
