Alex wakes up one morning and realizes he has no classes for the day and there's no practice or gym session today.
He knows all the guys have AM classes so he doesn't even bother hitting them up to get breakfast. He decides to hit up his favorite breakfast joint near campus. He catches the trolly just in time and thanks God he never misses public transport in the city.
You would think after being in Boston since June he would memorize the public transport system and arrive earlier to stops, but no. The Alex Vlasic way is to pray he makes it on time to the stop to catch the bus, train, subway or trolly. Yeah, he's got living in Boston down pact.
After scrolling through instagram and twitter to kill the time, he arrives at his stop and gets out of trolly. He walks the 6 blocks to the diner and when he enters the hostess smiles at him.
"Hi Alex, how ya been, kid?" The hostess, named Joanne, asks him.
"Alright. School and hockey have been kicking my but, so I haven't had the time to come here recently," he informs her.
"It's alright, kid. School's been kicking Joey's butt too and he has baseball to worry about too," she explains, as she grabs menus and escorts him to an empty booth by the windows, just like he likes.
"Thanks, Joanne," he smiles.
"You're welcome, kiddo," she smiles, before walking away.
After a couple minutes, a waitress comes and her orders coffee and pancakes, with eggs, bacon, and homefries on the side. After stuffing his face, he asks for the check but the waitress tells him it's on the house.
He walks over to Joanne and she gives him an expectant look.
"Thank you, but I can pay it," he protests.
"Listen sweetie, you're one of our best customers. In fact, you're one of the reasons why this ole place keeps running. You're a good kid and you looked like you needed the pick-me-up. Now scram," she explains.
He thanks her again and she shoos him out of the diner. He steps out of the doors and runs smack dab into somebody. He realizes it's a girl and he knocked her down to the ground. Her bookbag fell and her coffee got spilled all over the sidewalk and some got on her clothes.
"I'm so sorry!" he cries out, lifting her from the ground and picking up her bag.
"It's my fault, I should've been paying attention," she replies, pulling her bookbag back on her back.
