Tom: You up?
It was 11:30 pm on a Sunday night when you got the text. You had been waiting for it ever since you'd found out through mutual friends that he was in town for the weekend. You had told yourself that you would just ignore him this time; that this would be the time that you wouldn't give in.
Tom: I miss you
The absolute audacity. You knew that you shouldn't engage at all, but you couldn't stop yourself from calling out his bullshit. Your fingertips flew across the touchscreen as you typed out your response.
Y/N: You missed me so much that I haven't heard from you in two months?
Y/N: You're full of shit Tom
Y/N: Leave me alone
There was a pause before he typed his reply and you wondered what kind of excuse he was concocting.
Tom: You know I've been away. I was filming
You rolled your eyes at how lame and predictable his answer was.
Y/N: Were you filming in an underground cave
Tom: ????
Y/N: Unless you were in a cave, I'm pretty sure your phone was working. you could have called me.
Tom: I can explain.
Y/N: Not interested.
Tom: I just want to talk. Please let me in.
Y/N: Let you in? where are you
Tom: Outside.
Y/N: Outside? like outside my building, outside
Tom: Yes
Y/N: So now you're a stalker and a jackass, good work holland
Tom: I'm not leaving until you let me in
Y/N: Enjoy spending the night in your car asshole
Tom: Let me in or I swear I will press every buzzer down here
Y/N: You wouldn't
Tom: I absolutely would
Tom: I'm sure your wonderful neighbors would love to get woken up at this time of night
Tom: especially when I tell them I'm here for you but you wouldn't answer.
You'd had some friends over a few months ago. It was supposed to be a casual thing, a few drinks, and some music but those friends invited other people and eventually, you had a full-scale rager going on and it had gotten out of hand. The couple that lived in the apartment above you had called the police and made a noise complaint. You'd never said a word when they let their four-year-old run-up and down the halls wailing like a banshee or had door slamming arguments loud enough to make your walls shake. The building manager had issued a stern warning not to cause any more trouble.
Despite a few lousy neighbors, you were in a nice apartment in a decent neighborhood with a rent that you could afford. You couldn't risk anything that might jeopardize your tenancy.
You couldn't afford to piss off anybody else in the building. Tom knew that and in typical fuckboy fashion, he was using it against you to get his way.
You stalked into your living room and buzzed him into the building. You paced in front of the door mumbling to yourself until you heard his light knock. You threw the door open and walked away from him without bothering to exchange a pleasantry or greeting.
