24 ; Bloody knife

Why would that bastard do that? He made an avox out of himself to win some sympathy? What kind of sick Game is he playing?

— Cato Hadley

───────────────────

I'M COMPLETELY numb while my eyes shift from Percy's lifeless body and back to the place I've last seen Peeta. My whole body is shaking while I keep holding around Percy.

His voice is echoing in my head.

Only one can make it and I knew from the first day I saw you, you'll win this.

Guilt leaves shivers all over my body. I was the one wanting to hunt Percy down even though he was loyal the whole time, wanting to protect me in the arena. One of my tears falls down onto Percy's now pale face. He looks like he's sleeping peacefully.

His perfectly shaped face and his long locks behind into a small ponytail make me miss him from the second he took his last breath. I knew from the second he closed his eyes I won't be the same mentally.

My heart stopped beating with Percy's and took another rythm to live on.

I suddenly shake out of my mourning state and take a deep breath before laying Percy's head down to the ground slowly so I would be able to stand up. My right hand clinches around my bow and the other one grabs around the knife. I glance at the bloody knife, seeing Percy's wide blue eyes right in front of me when he gasped for air.

I take one glance at the weapon before hiding the knife in my boots,

It's been Peeta all this time. He fooled me right from the beginning when we were escorted from District 12 to the Capitol. Hell, he fooled every single one of us with his act of young damned love and maybe he would actually win this.

"We will meet again, Odair. We are proud of you, you died a hero."

I take another deep breath while I hide inside the Cornucopia, having my arrow ready. My eyes scan the whole area while my mind keeps drifting away. I've never felt more betrayed in my entire life.

He's from home and he used my kindness and my trust for his advantage. I feel my pulse rising at the thought of Peeta. That's when my eyes went wide, I have to get to Peeta before he finds me.

I take one last look at Percy's lifeless body and was about to sprint out of the Cornucopia when I hear howling again, just like I did earlier. It sounds like wolves, definitely not human. I look out of the silver horn-shaped cone, thanks to Seneca for the darker arena. I'm not able to see anything when I suddenly spot someone running towards the Cornucopia.

I quickly grab around an arrow, aiming at the dark figure when I realize it's Cato.

I feel my heart racing every time I lay my eyes on him but this time I feel nothing. My body is not able to feel anything but pain and lost. I feel like when me and Ace lost our parents to the Capitol.
