Flanders, Belgium, 1916

Along the trenches belonging to the German Empire, a young woman with blue eyes and short dark brown hair in a Landwehr uniform is examining her Gewehr 88 (1888) rifle. She pulls back the bolt of her rifle and places a clip of bullets on top of the ejection port and uses her thumb to push the bullets into the rifle. She puts the clip that held the bullets onto a box next to her and pushes the bolt forward, finished reloading. She then hears footsteps coming towards the part of the trench she's at and sees a male soldier with two cups on hand. The man smiles.

"Oh, hallo Walter. One of those for me?" She asks with a smirk.

"Nah, they're both meine, Heinrich. I just claimed I was delivering it to a comrade." Walter says with a joking smile as he sits down next to "Heinrich", who's posing a man so that she can fight for the vaterland. Walter gives her the cup of soup and takes of sip of his.

"Oh, no need to be an ass, Commie. I thought you guys were all about sharing," she says with a chuckle before she sips her soup. Walter smirks at her.

"Ooo, we name calling now? I'll have you know that I'm a Socialist. And how would you feel if I started calling you Viktoria to the rest of the regiment?" Walter says with a smile. Viktoria, the woman's actual name, scowls at him. Why, out of all the men in the regiment, did the local Marxist have to know her secret? And why did he have to end up as her best friend in the trenches?

"You wouldn't dare," She says with a smirk.

"I think I would. It might be fun," Walter shrugs. Viktoria rolls her eyes. Then the two chuckle before they hear a whistle on the other side of No-man's-land. They look at each other and grab their rifles and aim them towards No-man's-land. Over a dozen German troops rush into their part of the trench to reinforce the two. They all wait a moment before they start seeing figures coming out of the fog in the field. The machine gun emplacements open fire and soon the rifles start going off.

Dozens of British soldiers go down in a matter of seconds before Viktoria notices one of the machine guns near her stopped firing. She looks over and sees the men there frantically trying to unjam the gun. Suddenly a bullet hits the gunner's neck as the attacking Brits are too close now. Most of the Germans, including Viktoria, fix bayonets.

The Tommies rush into the trench with their bayonets and close-quarter trench combat ensues. Viktoria fires her rifle at one Briton before she ran out of ammo in the clip. She then uses the butt of the rifle to smack a another Briton to the ground and uses the bayonet to finish him off. Viktoria then feels a sharp pain in her back and glances back to see she had been stabbed herself. Her eyes widen at that realization before she grabs her Mauser C96 and shoots the Briton between the eyes as the bayonet blade comes out of her. She falls to the ground and hears her name called out before everything goes black.

This is it? Geez, and I thought Shakespeare's death scenes were anticlimactic sometimes. Though I suppose that's how life is: anticlimactic deaths, nothing too grand. *Sigh* I hope Germany wins the war, even if I died before I could see the end.

Suddenly, Viktoria sees light. Did she somehow survive? Will she be able to see Germany prevail? Nope! She wakes up to see a white and blue roof and she's in a crib.

"Huh? Where am I?" She thinks. She looks at her body and sees little feet and hands... she's a baby. She then sees a young girl with white hair and light blue eyes walk up to her crib and look down at her with a smile.

"Hi Weiss! It's me, your big sister, Winter!" The girl says. "Weiss" tilts her baby head.

"Scheiße..." Viktoria/Weiss thinks.

End Part!
