Ruby POV

I was staring down the scope of Crescent Rose towards a warehouse. I saw two White Fang guards at the front entrance as I put my hand on my earphone.

"Blake, are you in position?" I asked.

"Yes, on the roof" Blake responded.

I aim my scope to the roof to see Blake about to enter a roof window into the warehouse.

"Remember, eliminate the target silently and get out. No drama." I said on the comm. Our target was a White Fang  leader by the name of Adam Taurus. Now, I know Blake had a thing with him years ago but she was willing to help in his assassination, probably to make it up to me. If we take him out, we can disorganize the White Fang and the Empire can handle the rest.

I see Blake enter the building and I keep an eye on the perimeter. I hear footsteps coming up to me and I quickly turn around to see Weiss.

"Hey Ruby," she says smiling.

"Weiss, did you and Yang finish setting the charges?" I whisper at her. I quickly turn my attention back at the warehouse.

"Yes, the hanger, barracks, and armory have been primed to explode in ten minutes," she states as she gets in a prone position next to me.

"Good, that should be long enough to get back to the airship and get away from here before anyone knows it was us. Unless Blake screws this up," I said. Weiss looks at me with a frown.

"You're never going to forgive Blake about what happened with your dad, are you?" she asks. I sigh and look at her.

"She panicked when she saw Adam last time and that got my dad killed, what do you think? I may at least TRY to forgive Blake if she kills Adam here and now," I retort and look back through the scope to see Blake exiting the warehouse the way she came and I watch her stealthily make her way over to us and we start hearing some yelling from the White Fang. I see White Fang starting to swarm the area in a frenzy. I stand up along with Weiss.

"Looks like you did your job properly this time Blake. Let's go!" I order as the three of us run away from the compound into a nearby forest. Within a few minutes we see a clearing with a dropship in the middle, seeing Yang by the hatch.

"I was worried that you weren't going to show before the fireworks started," she jokes as we all pile into the dropship and I get in the pilot seat to get us in the air. As we take off I see to the left of my view a massive explosion coming from the direction the base was in. I smirk as we fly away from the base and back to Vale.

"So, Adam Taurus is dead Blake?" I ask as I look behind my chair towards Blake, who is looking down.

"Yes.... He's dead," she states as she sits down and buries her face into her hands.

"Good," I simply say as we get closer to Vale. I can't wait to lay down in my own bed again and get some real sleep. It's been five years since we graduated from Beacon and I have not gotten a good night's sleep in all of that because we kept being sent all over the world to deal with White Fang or other terrorist groups.

As we land in the hanger bay at the military compound, we are greeted by Major Winter Schnee. We all salute at Winter before she gestures for us to be at ease and smiles.

"Good work you four, you've done the Empire a great service with eliminating Adam Taurus," she said. I smile and look at my team, who were all smiling too with the exception of Blake.

"We're happy to serve ma'am," Yang says for all of us. Winter nods at us and turns away.

"Now, we've noticed you haven't had much leave during the past five years due to all that has happened with the rise in terrorism. Now that we have the situation under control again, you four can finally get some real rest while the rest of us work. You've earned it," she says as she walks away. The four of us look at one another with happiness as we're getting our first actual break in years.

We head to the locker room to put our mission gear away and get dressed in more civilian attire. Blake and Yang walk out of the locker room first before I finished putting my uniform away and got into standard clothes. Weiss was waiting for me to finish before we started walking out.

"So, now that we actually have a break, what do you want to do Weiss?"

"Well, I heard the new 'Wolfnado' movie came out. We could see that," Weiss answers.

"Those movies get dumber and dumber as they go, it's actually hilarious," I say with a grin.

"I'm pretty sure that's the screenwriters intention," Weiss retorts. We both giggle as we walk out of the base. Suddenly a squad of troopers run past me and Weiss. The troopers were wearing heavy power armor invented in Atlas and equipped with heavy cannons. They were a counter-insurgency squad, they started appearing five years ago when the rise in terrorist and rebel groups occurred.

"Go, go, go!" we hear one of the soldiers say as we watch them get in a ground transport to take them somewhere in the city. Weiss sighs while I frown.

"There never seems to be an end to the terrorists and rebels that want to bring us down..." Weiss says with some sadness in her voice.

"Well, with Adam dead, maybe things will start getting better. Then we will stop seeing troops on the streets again," I say with a smile as we walk into the city. Weiss smiles at me while we walk through the streets. As we walk past a government news center. The current broadcast catches Weiss' attention as she sees the Schnee Dust Company on the headline.

"This just in, the Schnee Dust Company deals with a loss as Jacques Schnee is arrested by Imperial Police," the News Anchor says.

"WHAT?!" Weiss exclaims as the report continues. I look at her in shock and turn to face the screen.

"The cause of his arrest is due to his continued defiance of Imperial law to improve work conditions for Faunus dust workers. The Emperor says in a statement:" the Anchor says and is replaced with a broadcast of the Emperor on the screen. The monarch has grey hair from age and has a full majestic beard to go along with a surprisingly fit body despite his age.

"I have known Jacques for a long time, even called him a friend. But his unwillingness to obey our laws and better the treatment of the subjects of our empire demanded he be punished. He continued giving the Faunus workers poor working conditions and poor pay even after we have told him numerous times in the past decade to do the opposite. As such, I must ask our Faunus subjects for their forgiveness, as I had done little to stop these abuses up until now," the Emperor says in his statement as the anchor appears again. I see Weiss looking at the screen with horror in her eyes, as with her father removed from the SDC presidency, that means....

I hear Weiss' scroll ring and I watch her hesitantly answer the call.

End Part!

So I thought on this alternate universe during late 2018- early 2019. I couldn't figure out how I wanted to progress this story and got stuck after the third chapter when Ilia and some White Fang were slaughtered by those Counter-Insurgency Troopers we saw earlier. I considered having the story be one about morality and how far is too far to try and do the right thing while still acting for the greater good. But I don't really have the talent to effectively write something of that caliber in a drawn-out story, so I don't know.
